Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, VVS Laxman is expected to be in charge of Team India in the five-match Twenty20 International series against Australia followed by the completion of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The series is scheduled to start in Vishakapatnam on November 23 and will act as a preparation for the Men in Blue ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

According to a PTI report, present Indian coach Rahul Dravid may miss the Twenty20 International series against Australia as the head coach of India’s squad has an expiration date on his contract following the World Cup.

However, Dravid will have a chance to reapply for the post after the completion of the marquee event. He could go onto get the job if he manages to help the Indian side win the ODI World Cup after 12 long years.

Both the head coach and the top players have had incredibly busy months starting from the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in 2023, they began playing cricket constantly without a break and the experienced Indian players would take a well-earned break while the rest of the team would start prepare for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and the same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup.”

It was not long ago when VVS Laxman assumed command of the Indian side in International Cricket. He served as head coach for the men’s team to clinch the gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games campaign and the three-match T20I series against Ireland.

India’s World Cup campaign started on a rocky note, with initial setbacks against the five-time champions Australia in a challenging chase. However, The Men in Blue have managed to be clinical with their performance in the ODI World Cup and are currently placed at the top of the points table with five wins from the five games they have played in the tournament so far.

It’s been more than ten years since India won an ICC title, and many believe that the 2023 ODI World Cup will be their finest opportunity to win the title.

Renowned Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is leading the team in front of home supporters, and they have started the tournament with a bang. The Men in Blue are looking to continue their excellent form and make the most of this opportunity.
