Former Pakistan captain and present bowling coach Waqar Younis recently praised the Indian captain Virat Kohli for setting up a high-quality fitness status. However, Younis further added that the Pakistan players are also growing up in the fitness status by setting their own bar.

Virat Kohli has been praised by the cricket world for setting a great example of consistency in every format of this game as he has maintained 50+ batting averages in every international cricket format. Talking about his immense success in international cricket, many have credited his incredible fitness status.

Waqar Younis has also the same feeling. Apart from praising his incredible batting quality in every format, the former Pakistan captain also believes that Kohli’s biggest impact in this game is his fitness.

On the Twitter platform @GloFansOfficial, Younis said, “Virat Kohli has evolved the game and all the formats of the modern-day cricket including T20 Cricket, one day suits him a lot and he is brilliant at Test matches. But the biggest difference he brought to cricket that is followed and watched worldwide is his fitness.”

Younis also feels that it is hard to beat Kohli in anything and his incredible fitness is the main reason for this status. The present Pakistan bowling coach likes Kohli’s fighter attitude.

Younis added, “He has set a bar of fitness worldwide, for players, I think it is hard to beat. I think for that reason also, you like everything about Virat Kohli. He is fit, he is always in your face, he wants to prove you that he is the best, he is a fighter, so that is why, we all like him.”

Virat is one of the top athletes in the country: Waqar Younis

While Waqar Younis feels that Virat Kohli is one of the top Indian athletes, Pakistan boys are not much behind the Indian national cricket team captain.

The former Pakistan fast bowler claimed, “There is no doubt that there are too many cricketers who are fit. There are three formats when you play all three formats you have to maintain fitness standards. He (Virat) is one of the top athletes in the country. Our boys are not behind.”

Praising limited-overs captain Babar Azam and young left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi‘s fitness, Younis has opened up that they want to set their own bar in fitness that suits their cricket rather than copying anyone.

He mentioned, “You take Babar Azam, he is very fit. He is also delivering goods. Shaheen Shah Afridi is super fit. We will set our own bar, we not copy someone else. We will set the bar that suits Pakistan cricket and will take the team forward. But right now in the training camp they are getting better and we are working hard on ensuring their fitness levels meet those standards required in world cricket.”

Pakistan players are currently in England tour to resume their international cricket action. In this tour, Pakistan will play the three-match Test series and three-match T20I series against the hosts England between 5th August and 1st September 2020.
