Washington Sundar Turns Up At Test Specialists Camp At BKC Where Team Is Gearing Up To Face Kiwis In 2 Tests

Washington Sundar may not be a part of Team India for the forthcoming two-Test series against New Zealand at home, but he’s still there in the camp for the Test specialists at the MCA’s BKC facility here.

The off-spinning allrounder is still recovering from a finger injury he sustained in July, during a practice game ahead of the Test series in England. Since then, Washington Sundar has missed plenty of cricket – the Tests in England, the T20I World Cup, and then the home series against New Zealand.

Washington Sundar Is Hopeful To Be Fit For The 1st Test In South Africa

On Monday, the left-hander Washington Sundar took some throwdowns, though he didn’t bat or bowl.

“The selectors are hoping that he’d be fit for the first Test in South Africa, which kicks off on December 17 in Johannesburg. He’s a crucial cog in the wheel, especially as he bats so well and adds strength to the lower order. The team missed him badly in the T20 World Cup,” a source said.

While he’s already established himself as a canny white-ball bowler, Washington Sundar has scored 265 runs in four Tests averaging 66.25, including three fifties, and taken six wickets averaging 49.83 to show how valuable he can be in Test cricket.

Washington Sundar has played 42 IPL matches since 2017 managing 217 runs and picking 27 scalps. In 6 matches in IPL 2021, he picked 3 scalps and scored 31 runs. Washington Sundar had taken an injection on his right-hand bowling finger during the three-day practice game against County Select XI in England tour. As a result, the spinner was ruled out of the remainder of the England tour.

Washington Sundar’s Replacement Jayant Yadav Bowled For A Long Time At Nets

On Tuesday, Washington Sundar’s replacement in the two-Test series against New Zealand, Jayant Yadav – who’s making a comeback into the Indian team after five years – bowled for a long time.

Royal Challengers Bangalore was without their allrounder Washington Sundar for the UAE leg of IPL 2021 after he failed to fully recover from a finger injury. Washington Sundar had sustained the injury in the UK last month which ruled him out of the ongoing Test series between India and England as well.
