Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah disclosed that ACC is waiting for a response from other participating countries to confirm the venue for Asia Cup 2023. Earlier, Shah took a firm stand that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan for the continental tournament.
Team India refused to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup stating security reasons. However, after an initial standoff, both cricket boards are moving swiftly towards a resolution that could have both teams playing their tournament matches against each other outside Pakistan.
“We are awaiting feedback from other nations to finalise the venue for the 2023 Asia Cup and clarity on the India-Pakistan match,” Jay Shah told the media.
However, a BCCI source recently revealed that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) believes hosting the tournament in the two countries is not commercially viable.
Earlier, Najam Sethi said that he would raise these issues in the next ACC and ICC meetings–and stated if BCCI doesn’t allow the Indian team to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan might not visit India for the World Cup, but now it looks like they accepted the proposal by the Asian Cricket Council.
This Has Resulted In A Record-Breaking 26.2 Million USD Earned – Jay Shah
ACC President Jay Shah revealed that the Asian Cricket Council had achieved a new record in revenue generation as they created income from new ventures last year.
“We have achieved a historic milestone of generating additional revenue for the ACC, creating new avenues of income such as NFT, Hybrid Graphics, and Pathway Tournament rights”.
Jay Shah asserted that Asian Cricket Council had earned USD 26.2 million and added that they’re doing a great job exploring new ideas and opportunities to reach the global level of cricket.
“This has resulted in a record-breaking 26.2 million USD earned. This incredible milestone was achieved by creating, exploring, and monetising new opportunities. This shows that the ACC is excellently innovating and expanding its reach in the global market,” Jay Shah added.
The six-nation Asia Cup, which will be played in a 50-over format and is likely to be played in the first part of September 2023, has grouped India and Pakistan with a qualifier. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are included in the other group. The final will be one of a total of 13 games played over 13 days.
