West Indies vs India 2019: Rahkeem Cornwall Is Very Consistent – Mayank Agarwal
India’s opening batsman Mayank Agarwal heaped high praise on West Indies debutant Rahkeem Cornwall. The off-spinner bowled tight lines on the opening day of the second Test match at Jamaica. The lanky off-spinner also became the heaviest cricketer of all time as he weighs an astonishing 140 kilos.
Rahkeem Cornwall has had a good debut thus far as he scalped one wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara. Furthermore, the tall all-rounder took two catches for the hosts. The off-spinner bowled tight lines and it was not easy for the Indian batsmen to score runs against him.
Agarwal scored a fine knock of 55.
Mayank Agarwal who scored a fine knock of 55 runs off 127 balls praised the debutant for hitting the right lengths.
“Rakheem is very, very [consistent], he forms good clusters and he keeps bowling those areas, keeps bowling those areas. I thought it wasn’t very easy to score off him. We took our time and it was very important for Virat and me to actually get a partnership going and it was important that one of us went on to score big,” Agarwal pointed out.
On the other hand, West Indies captain Jason Holder was the pick of the team’s bowlers as he took three wickets. Holder was able to breathe down the neck of the Indian batsmen as he was right on the money.
“I think Holder is bowling great areas, he is not giving you an inch. He is there pegging in those areas, pegging on the length and short of a length. And you know he doesn’t give free deliveries for you to score off of,” Agarwal said.
Meanwhile, India is in a good position as they were 264-5 at the end of the day’s play. The Indian captain Virat Kohli top-scored for the team as he scored a fine knock of 76 runs.
“I can say it got a little better to bat on after the first session, the wicket got a lot harder as the sun beat down, the wicket lost some of its moisture. It just kept getting a little better to bat on, but I think credit must be given to the West Indian bowlers, especially Roach and Holder – they kept coming and kept coming and kept bowling tight lines,” Agarwal said.
India will like to consolidate on the current position. Hanuma Vihari who scored a good knock of 93 runs in the first Test match is unbeaten on 42 runs. Furthermore, Rishabh Pant is undefeated on 27 runs.
