Team India opener KL Rahul is on the threshold to set a world record when Men in Blue face Windies in the first match of the T20I series at the Lauderhill in Florida on August 3 (Saturday). Meanwhile, the second T20I is also scheduled at the same venue on Sunday (August 4).

Based on innings, the promising top-order batsman requires 121-plus runs to become fastest to register 1000 runs in Twenty20 Internationals. However, he has a game to achieve this milestone.

Thus, he will also become overall seventh Indian cricketer to register 1000 runs in the shortest version of the game.

The right-handed batsman Rahul has shown his character at the top-flight cricket. He is further considered as a rock-solid batsman when it comes to the limited-overs format.

If Rahul would achieve the feat during the T20 series opener, he will then surpass Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam, who had reached the 1000-run landmark in 26 innings.

So far, the 27-year-old Rahul had accumulated 879 in 24 innings which is comprised of 27 T20I matches.

He has two hundreds and five half-centuries to his name in the T20Is since making his debut in June 2016 against Zimbabwe.

Besides, star Indian batsman took 27 innings to slam 1000 runs in T20Is.

Moreover, if he managed to achieve the feat in the penultimate T20I, then he will sit at par with Azam. Thus, he could only surpass his teammate Kohli to become fastest India to score 1000 runs in T20Is.

Rahul managed 49-ball 100 with the help of nine sixes and five fours which saw his strike-rate of 204.08.

Interestingly, Rahul had recorded a century at the same venue against the Windies in 2016. However, the thrilling encounter saw Windies winning the game by a mere run.

Besides, Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma is four short of claiming the record of most sixes in the T20Is. Windies explosive batsman Chris Gayle holds the record. But he has been rested for the T20Is. The southpaw had smashed 105 maximums in just 58 games.
