ICC World Test Championship: Ravi Shastri Says ” Pride At Stake” On Test Ranking
Ravi Shastri has been reappointed as the head coach of the Indian national cricket team. He recently shared the responsibility of being the head coach. India is on the top in ICC World Test Championship points table with 120 points. To retain this position, the team has to be consistent in victories. Ravi Shastri has opined that being in no.1 for three years brings more pressure and pride at stake.
“We are playing at home [against South Africa], and it is the World Test Championship, so now there is even more reason on why you have to play the way you should. There are now points to be accumulated. We are the No.1 team in the world, and we have been for the last three years, so there is pride at stake as well,” Shastri told Gulf News.
He proposed that the team will have many changes as young players are also needed to given chance in the team. Same time there is also a need to focus on the progress as a whole team.
“The vision is to keep the consistency level going,” Shastri said. “It will be a team in transition, and one has to keep an eye out for the youth and also keep an eye on developing the bench strength as far as batting and bowling goes across all three formats. We should, at the same time, be never losing sight of the fact that you play to win. Never losing that angle, but yet, at the same time, investing in youth.”
Ravi Shastri expressed his long term vision for Team
The team has to work for next year T20 World Cup and also for the ongoing World Test Championship with balancing the transition period.
“The path should be that knowing well you have got 12 months to go for the T20 World Cup and you have about 18-20 months to go for the World Test Championship. Getting youth during that transition period by keeping an eye on the youth is important so that they can mix with the experience and give us a really solid side,” he further added.
The team is preparing for South Africa the series. The three-match T20I series will run from 15th September followed by the three-match Test series.
India has announced their T20I squad in which young talents have been given chances. Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini are given place in this T20I squad.
