Former Pakistan skipper Younis Khan is all set to guide Pakistan Under-19 team according to the source in Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The veteran cricketer Younis will be appointed as the head coach of Pakistan’s junior team.
Furthermore, the prominent face of Pakistan cricket Younis will take over as junior selection committee’s chief. Eventually, it will help the Board to streamline the cricketing landscape in the country.
However, the decision is yet to be finalised due to pending paperwork.
“A decision has been taken in this regard within the PCB but the announcement will be made soon after completing a few paperwork,” the source in PCB maintained.
Pertinently, with Pakistan aiming to overhaul the cricket at the junior level, Younis will be given complete authority to nurse the raw talent.
Also, former Test cricketer Nadeem Khan is the main contender for the post of team manager.
“Younis will be given full powers as head coach and also chief selector of the national junior selection committee. He will be assisted by another former Test player, Nadeem Khan who is in line to be appointed as manager,” it added.
By doing this, PCB is following the proposal of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The chairman of the PCB Ehsan Mani has reiterated on improving the junior cricketing structure. He suggested taking some crucial decision in the foreseeable future.
For India, Rahul Dravid is at the helm of affairs while nursing India A and Under-19 team. He has instilled confidence amongst youngsters to rise against the tide.
While setting sights on the Youth World Cup, PCB officials have made up mind to strengthen the core by appointing veterans into the management setup.

“In the past, there has been a tendency to change coaches and managers of the junior team after one or two series. It has hurt the progress and development of the junior players,” the source added.
Earlier, Younis had made himself available like many other stars to help Pakistan in shaping up their future prospects. He believes the development has a crucial role to play in the contemporary cricket.
Now, the assignment lands in his favour, Younis is expected to take pleasure in imparting knowledge to the youngsters.
Younis, who retired from international cricket in 2017, has featured in 265 ODIs, 118 Tests and 25 T20Is. He also led Pakistan in 2009 Twenty20 World Cup in England and Wales.
