Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh faced a lot of flak following his decision to support the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF). As the world currently counter the Coronavirus pandemic, many athletes from around the globe have come together to help the affected countries.

Yuvraj took to Twitter and urged his followers to participate in the noble cause. He said that amid such an outbreak, people should look out for each other, especially the ones who are less fortunate. Apart from him, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also appealed to his fans.
Yuvraj’s tweet read, “These are testing times, it’s time to lookout for each other specially the ones who are lesser fortunate. Let’s do our bit, I am supporting the Shahid Afridi Foundation in this noble initiative of Covid19. Please donate.”

Yuvraj Singh comes under severe criticism
However, he came under severe criticism from the Indian fans. Many blasted the flamboyant former cricketer for putting out a gesture towards the arch-rivals. The tie between India and Pakistan hasn’t been great for years now. The two sides haven’t participated in a bilateral series for over eight years. Clearly, Yuvraj’s recent gesture didn’t please his fans.

Of late, Yuvraj has spoken out on the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic and the measures that need to be taken. Speaking to Hindu, Yuvraj said that people should not panic and instead understand the disease and precautions that need to be taken.
“It’s heartbreaking to see so many people dying all over the world. People, rather than panicking, should visit the official health sites (WHO and Union Health Ministry) to really understand what the disease is,” he said
Having battled a life-threatening disease (Cancer) himself, Yuvraj said people should refrain from going through false information.
“I was also very scared in the beginning (of cancer) but then I got the right information, went to the right doctor and hospital. There is rampant misinformation about the virus on social media. First of all, people need to stop reading (social media) and look for correct information.” he added.
