Yuzvendra Chahal Recalled An Incident While Playing For Mumbai Indians In the 2011 Champions League

In the latest episode of RCB Podcast, Yuzvendra Chahal narrated a similar incident from his initial days, when he was part of the Mumbai Indians franchise. The 31-year-old in this particular episode recalled an incident involving former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds and New Zealand’s James Franklin, who tied him during a party.

“It happened in 2011 when Mumbai Indians won the Champions League. Andrew Symonds drank a lot of “fruit juice” during a party. He tied my hands and James Franklin tied my legs. The task for me was to open it. But then, they forgot that they had put a tape on my mouth. The next morning, a cleaner came and saw me and got me out of it,” said Chahal.

Yuzvendra Chahal was part of the Mumbai Indians franchise for three seasons, and later joined former India captain Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he spent the next eight seasons. Yuzvendra Chahal had to wait two full seasons to make his IPL debut.

In the one match that he played in IPL 2013, he conceded 34 runs and went wicket-less. However, it was his performance in the Champions League T20 final of 2013 that paved his way into the RCB.

Yuzvendra Chahal took 2 for 9 in just 3 overs in the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, guiding Mumbai Indians to victory, following which he was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore at his base price of ₹10 lakh, and he hasn’t disappointed the franchise, and made his international debut as well.

Yuzvendra Chahal Want To Go To RCB Again

Yuzvendra Chahal will go under the hammer in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2022 mega auctions, scheduled to be held later this month.  Ahead of one of biggest cricket’s biggest trades, Yuzvendra Chahal hoped to resume his services for the Royal Challengers, but won’t feel bad if any other franchise acquires him.

“Obviously, I want to go to RCB again. But I won’t feel bad if I go somewhere else. All of them have to build new teams. Whoever takes me, I have no problem. I will continue to give my 100%. But yes, when you go to a new franchise, it takes a little time to adjust. But that’s why we call ourselves professional players,” Chahal said in a chat with R Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube channel.

Yuzvendra Chahal was not retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the ten-franchise IPL 2022 mega auction. He will be up for grabs from INR 2 crore onwards at the event.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been associated with the RCB since 2014 and picked 139 wickets in 113 games with an economy of 7.58. Even in IPL 2021, he picked 18 wickets in 15 matches with an economy of 7.06. But RCB didn’t retain him ahead of the auction as their three retained picks are- Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj.
