Goldberg was originally supposed to be the headliner for last night’s Smackdown. But considering the show took place in the hometown of Smackdown women’s champion, Bayley, she was the one to close out the show by standing tall. However, the fact that she has now received a new challenger for the title, won’t give her much relief.

WWE Announces Huge Main Event Match For Monday Night Raw

A Fatal 4 Way main event match was announced once WWE SmackDown episode on FOX went live at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. It saw Carmella become the new number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She will now challenge Bayley in a title match, at a later date that is yet to be announced.

Steel Cage Match Confirmed For Roman Reigns At WWE Super Showdown 2020

The Fatal 4 Way match witnessed Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Dana Brooke competing on Smackdown as Bayley watched from ringside. Bliss was in control and tried to land the Twisted Bliss but Naomi countered the move by pulling her knees up. Naomi then took out Bliss with a Rear View and almost picked up the pinfall win.

But Carmella broke up the pinfall up not allowing Naomi to capitalize. She immediately hit Naomi with two back to back superkicks to get the pin on Naomi. Thus she earned a title match opportunity after a gap of almost two years. The post-match segment saw Bayley rushing to the ring to drop Carmella face-first into the mat. Following this, SmackDown went off the air with Bayley clutching the title and staring at her opponent, from the ramp.

Previously, it was rumored that Naomi was the chosen one to face Bayley for the Smackdown women’s title match. She returned last week after a six-month hiatus to face the champion to send her for a retreat with quick moves. But it looks like WWE officials chose Carmella over the returning name, at the last moment.

Carmella vs. Bayley is supposed to be a filler feud as we move towards WrestleMania 36. To date, it looks like Sasha Banks will challenge her best friend for the women’s title at the biggest event of the year. Her comeback is just a matter of moments once she gets healed from an ankle injury.
