Former India opener Aakash Chopra has made a bold prediction for the upcoming IPL auction as he said that Harshal Patel, who was the Purple Cap winner of the last season, wouldn’t be breaking the bank this time. The mega auction will be held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Notable that this time IPL will be a 10-team affair as two new franchises in form of Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been inducted.

As the time is coming close for the all-important auction, the build-up has started. On his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra discussed the most in-demand Indian bowlers in the auction. Chopra feels that Deepak Chahar, who was with CSK previously, will be on everybody’s list as the 29-year old would be a value for money buy. Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Rahul Chahar, and Yuzvendra Chahal are the other 4 bowlers in his list of Top-5 expensive Indian bowlers.

Chopra said that wickets in the powerplay is a key to success and there ain’t many competitors against Deepak Chahar in this regard. He insisted that Harshal Patel won’t cost too much despite his record-breaking 32-wickets in the last season.

“Firstly, he takes wickets with the new ball. There isn’t any Indian of this kind. You can think of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi…I didn’t even go with Harshal Patel, despite him picking 32 wickets last season to win the Purple Cap. But I feel probably he won’t cost that much,” Aakash Chopra spoke on his Youtube channel.

Chopra feels that his former franchise CSK might once again bid for him. Deepak Chahar recently played a blinder of a knock 54(34) against South Africa in the third ODI at Cape Town.

“Deepak is you bank in the first three overs. He can come and give you early wickets in the powerplay. There is nothing better than that. He can break the back of the opponent. In death overs, he is alright, not great. But that can work. I feel CSK will try to get him back once again. Ahmedabad and Lucknow will also try. Every franchise will try to get him in their team. And he has started batting as well,” Chopra added.

Deepak Chahar made his IPL debut for Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 but since 2018 he has been with the yellow army. In 63 IPL matches, he picked 59 wickets with an economy of 7.8.
