An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 was felt during the ICC Under-19 World Cup match between Ireland and Zimbabwe at the Queen’s Park Oval.

It didn’t impact the game but the commentators mentioned it on air that they felt the tremors.

“Ireland spinner Matthew Humphreys was bowling the fifth bowl of the sixth over to Zimbabwe batter Brian Bennett when the front-on camera showing the action began to shake furiously.

“However, the play didn’t stop as Bennett played a defensive shot to mid-off, and then dispatched the next ball to the boundary,” as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“We are… I believe we are having an earthquake right now. In the box. We are indeed having an earthquake (laughs). It felt like not just a train going by behind us, but the whole Queen’s Park Oval media centre rocked.” Andrew Leonard, the ICC commentator calling the action, said on-air as soon as the camera started to shake.

It was the 9th place playoff semifinal game as Zimbabwe elected to bat first after winning the toss. Zimbabwe bowled out for 166 in 48.4 overs. Brian Bennett was the top scorer with a score of 37 while his twin brother David Bennett scored 35. Muzamil Sherzad picked a fifer for Ireland with the figures of 7.4-1-20-5 while left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys returned with figures of 3/32 in his 10 overs.

In response, Ireland chased it down without much discomfort despite two early wickets. But captain Tim Tector and Jack Dickson formed an unbeaten partnership of 159 runs to take their home. Tector scored unbeaten 76 runs off 94 balls while Dickson added 78 runs off 88 balls.

It’s the third victory for Ireland in the tournament as they beat Uganda and Canada though they already lost the title’s race after losing against India and South Africa.
