Former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail reckons that India and Pakistan should play more against each other as he believes that politics should not be involved in cricket.
It’s notable that India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series against each other since January 2013. Pakistan toured India for a series of two T20Is and three ODIs in 2012-13.
Pakistan won the ODI series by 2-1 while the T20I series ended on a draw by 1-1. Since then both countries faced each other only in multi-nation tournaments like Asia Cup, World Cup, Champions Trophy.
Sohail insisted that cricket misses a healthy rivalry because of no India-Pakistan cricket.
“The ICC keeps on emphasising that politics should not be involved as far as cricket is concerned and I agree with that. The contest between India and Pakistan always brings that anticipation all around the world. Cricket fans are deprived of that,” Aamer Sohail spoke to Sportstar.
Recently Pakistan Cricket board chairman Ramiz Raja proposed a quadrangular series among India, Pakistan, Australia, and England to re-establish India-Pakistan cricket.
“Hello, fans. Will propose to the ICC a Four Nations T20i Super Series involving Pak Ind Aus Eng to be played every year, to be hosted on a rotation basis by these four. A separate revenue model with profits to be shared on a percentage basis with all ICC members, think we have a winner,” Ramiz Raja tweeted.

“Rohit Sharma is a good choice as a captain”- Aamer Sohail
As India is looking for a new test captain, Sohail believes that Rohit Sharma is the right candidate to take Indian cricket forward. His experience leading the side in IPL would help him.
“Rohit Sharma is a good choice as a captain. His batting doesn’t seem to get affected by captaincy. Of course, his experience as the Mumbai Indians skipper at the IPL (Indian Premier League) would help. IPL helps the new players get prepared and make them comfortable with the camera.
“But I believe the IPL performances should not be the criterion for selection to the Test team; it should be based only on First-Class cricket,” said Sohail.
