Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praise on Indian spinning duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for their contribution to Indian cricket over a decade. The spinning duo picked up 47 wickets in this edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy playing a vital role in India’s victory against Australia.
Speaking to the press, after the completion of the final test in Ahmedabad, when asked about whether the spinning duo will play for India in the next edition of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in India which will be most likely played in 2027. Rohit Sharma said
“Honestly if they’ll be around, I don’t know, I’ll be around (laughs). But four years is a long time. I mean for the sake of Indian cricket, I hope they stay and they play a lot of cricket for India,”
Rohit Sharma urged both veterans to play as long as they can for India and lauded them for their performance in test cricket, especially in home conditions. Ashwin and Jadeja have been vital cogs for the Indian test team for over a decade.
“Honestly both of them are marathon players for us. They know exactly how to get the job done. Especially in this part of the world, you give them the ball, they get you those breakthroughs. With the bat, they get you crucial runs. Very, very important players for us,” Rohit added.
Rohit Sharma further reckoned that India’s dominance in the home condition is largely due to the contribution of both players with their all-around abilities. Apart from their bowling, both players have scored crucial runs for India in the home conditions. On the worrying signs for India, Ravichandran Ashwin (36) and Ravindra Jadeja (34) are getting younger anymore. Team India needs to develop new players to fill their big shoes in Test Cricket.
We Will Monitor The Work Load Of Players During IPL 2023 – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma’s led India outplayed Australia in home conditions, but will face stiff competition from them in World Test Championship Final in June. As India qualified for the WTC final for the second time in a row, Australia will make its debut appearance in the final.
With most of Australian Test Players not participating in the IPL, they will come with better preparation than India for the finals. When asked about India’s plan going into the final. Rohit Sharma said that the Indian management will monitor the workload of players and the players from the teams who failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs might be sent earlier to accumulate the conditions in England.
“It’s quite critical for us. We are going to keep in constant touch with all the players who are going to play that final and monitor their workload and see what’s happening with them, Around 21st May, there will be six teams who will be possibly out of IPL play-off contention and so whichever players are available, we will try and find time to get them to the UK early as possible and get some time and we will monitor as much as possible,”
The WTC final is played in June after the completion of the IPL and this year, the final is on May 29 while the WTC will begin on June 7 at the Oval.
