As India and West Indies are all set to lock horns in the first T20I of the 3-match series on Wednesday, let’s take a look at some relevant numbers.

Head To Head:

Overall India and West Indies faced each other 17 times in the shortest format, India is leading the head-to-head battle with a 10-6 margin. There were a total of three 3-match series between them, India won all three of them which included two clean-sweeps.

At Eden Gardens, India played 4 T20Is and won 3 of them. On the other side, West Indies famously had their ‘Remember the name’ moment at this historic ground when Carlos Brathwaite hit 4 sixes against Ben Stokes to clinch their second T20 World Cup.

Both these sides faced each other at this venue once when India beat the visitors by 5 wickets in a low-scoring game.

A race between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma:

Currently, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are just 30 runs apart in terms of total T20I runs. Kohli scored 3227 runs in 87 innings with an average of 52.04 and a strike rate of 137.90 while Rohit Sharma scored 3197 runs in 111 innings with an average of 33.30 and a strike rate of 140.28. In the series, they can surpass the tally of Martin Guptill(3299) who is the leading run-scorer in this format.

Another record awaiting for Chahal:

Chahal who completed his 100 ODI wickets last week, now has a chance to become the leading wicket-taker for India in the shortest format. Chahal needs 3 more wickets to surpass the tally of Jasprit Bumrah (66). Currently, Chahal has 64 wickets to his name in 50 matches with an economy of 8.28. R Ashwin who is not part of this series had 61 wickets in 51 games.

Anil Kumble holds this record for India in the other two formats as he took 619 wickets in Test Cricket while in ODIs he picked 337 wickets.

Kieron Pollard- sixer king:

Kieron Pollard needs another two sixes to complete 100 sixes in this format. Currently, he has 98 sixes in 80 innings in T20I cricket. Only two West Indies batsmen have achieved this feat previously- Chris Gayle (124) and Evin Lewis (110).

India is also his favourite opponent to hit sixes as he hit 26 sixes in 10 innings against India.
