IPL 2019: All Eight Skippers to Sign the Pledge in Chennai

With Indian Premier League’s (IPL) twelfth edition kicking-off on March 23, all eight captains will get together in a compulsory meeting in Chennai. Also, the captains will sign the undertaking. Thus, the lengthy IPL 2019 tourney gets underway at M.A Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

The signing for the pledge is taken into consideration to allow skippers to rejoin their teams in time.

“Now, that the pledge signing and the meeting will be held earlier. The captains can rejoin the team well in advance,” one of the franchise officals told Sportstar.

As of now, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) skipper is already at home as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli landed in the town on March 21.

Apart from Dhoni and Kohli, other six captains have flown to Chennai to record the pledge.

Both teams are battling it out in the nets to pick their playing XI for the heavyweight curtain-raiser clash.

The defending champions Super Kings are confident following a supreme show in the IPL 11.

Besides, the Bengaluru-based side would be aiming to make a count early on. They’ve finished sixth on the points table in IPL 2018.

However, recently the IPL Governing Council has decided against the holding on an opening ceremony. The statement came in the wake up of Pulwama attack.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has further decided to contribute INR 20 crore to the country’s forces.

The pre-recorded meeting will be broadcasted apart from the pledge.

Furthermore, the reports suggested that all captains will participate in the inauguration.

However, according to the report carried by Sportstar, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintained the leaders of distinct teams will partake in the meeting before leaving on Friday.

“With the tournament a day away, pre-recording the pledge will help the captains to go back for their respective matches and preparation camps,” an official told Sportstar.

According to one of the representatives of the IPL franchise, to make certain players are kept fresh for the mega event of the domestic professional league holds importance.

“In a tournament like the IPL, it is important to ensure that players are given enough rest,” an official stated.

The grand finale for the tournament is expected on May 12.
