This time around, there won’t be any gimmick attached to the contest. Rather the veterans will square off in what is touted to be a pure wrestling match.

Last night’s taped WWE RAW main event segment witnessed Edge making his return since defeating Orton in the Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36 on April 5. Edge talked about the win and made everyone remember that he came back to WWE to retire on his own terms.

Edge also mentioned that he didn’t come back to hunt down Randy Orton on Raw, as WWE had advertised, throughout the week. He got his closure at WrestleMania his family were ready to move on from Orton. Then the Rated R Superstar went to speak about the WWE locker room when Orton interrupted and made his way to the ring.

The Viper congratulated Edge and said the better man won at WrestleMania. Orton left the ring but then he came back to the ring, saying he can’t lie to himself for Edge because ‘the better man did win at WrestleMania, the better wrestler did not.’

Orton doubted whether Edge still has the ability to compete in a proper wrestling match after retiring in 2011. Then he challenged the former 11-time world champion to a match at Backlash. Orton stressed that this time it would be a straight-up wrestling match, with no gimmicks.

WWE interviewer and host Charly Caruso went to Edge for his answer but he remained silent. Charly then noted that if this match happens, it could be the greatest pro wrestling match ever.

WWE RAW went off the air with Randy Orton and Edge staring down each other in the middle of the ring, Edge looked a bit concerned who never answered the challenge but it’s expected that the main event between these two legendary names will happen at WWE Backlash that is scheduled on June 14.

It will be the first Backlash pay-per-view since 2018. There’s no word yet on the whereabouts of Backlash but the closed-set WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida should be the host.
