It was revealed that the two were originally supposed to compete in a regular match at WrestleMania. But plans changed after the company had to relocate the show to the Performance Center from the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Speaking of the cinematic bout, The Undertaker said that they envisioned a match in a live arena even two weeks before WrestleMania. But the scenario changed entirely and he couldn’t be more proud of how things have been executed,
“The final product — I couldn’t be more proud of it. Under the circumstances, all the different things going on, everybody pulled together and put something like that out there that was different and was intriguing. I can’t speak for AJ, but I’m very proud of what we did.”
As noted earlier, one of the discussed aspects from this match was the return of the former Champion leaving the Dead Man gimmick and bring back his American Badass persona for this bout.

While speaking about the reason behind this change, The former World Champion claimed that he had to step away from the darker Undertaker character because AJ Styles made the rivalry between the two very personal,
“When AJ threw that first stone and made this personal, then it made it a no brainer, I couldn’t stay that mainstream Undertaker and be able to respond and deal with the things he was saying in that character.”
