India skipper Virat Kohli engaged in an hour-long Instagram ‘Live session’ with Kevin Pietersen on Thursday. Apart from the host of topics, Kohli opened up on how long he intends to carry on playing at the highest level. Interestingly, Pietersen, an ex England cricketer, played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

The duo shares a good rapport. Kohli highlighted the intensive cricket fixtures and the ever-growing workload. While he is yet to taste success as captain in the IPL, Kohli has done fairly well as the skipper in international cricket.

“I have thought about it. I have been playing three formats for nine years now, including the IPL, along with the captaincy for six years. So, it is not easy. But I will see. I said for the next two to three years more till the next World Cup, I will give it all and then figure out where I stand in which format and whatnot. And all those questions later.” said Virat.

Virat Kohli sheds light on cramped schedule, fatigue factor

Pietersen, who had a hot and cold relationship with the England Cricket Board during his playing days, asked Kohli if he ever felt the fatigue due to playing too much of cricket. “Do you feel like that you play too much? I remember during my career I was having huge arguments and disagreements with the ECB for my schedule. I was playing every T20 game, ODI game and every test match cricket and I did not want to miss on the IPL. So, do you feel like your feeling too much cricket,” Pietersen had quizzed Virat.

I have been playing too much cricket since the last three seasons, says Virat Kohli

Kohli responded saying, “I felt like I have been doing too much in the last two three seasons. I started taking breaks every now and then, T20 matches here and there, may be an ODI series here and there because I didn’t want to miss any Test cricket to be honest.”

The 31-year-old has played 86 Tests, 248 ODIs and 82 T20Is so far in a career that has spanned over close to 12 years. Kohli’s interaction with Pietersen gained a lot of popularity across the social media platform.
