Has WWE Intentionally Set Up Becky Lynch Vs. Asuka At Royal Rumble? 1

One of the most interesting bookings of 2020 Royal Rumble will be the Women’s Championship match from Monday Night Raw. It is being dubbed as the one-year anniversary of the similar contest that took place at Royal Rumble 2019.

It also played out in the storyline in a nice way. But WWE did not have any real intention to make the buildup stretching the angle from one year ago.

WWE Raw Full Results: January 20, 2020

Becky Lynch was defeated by Asuka at the 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view at the Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. This match took place for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

One year later, the same lineup has arrived at the scene. This time around, Becky Lynch is the champion and Asuka is the challenger. (Asuka is also the Women’s Tag Team Champion but her title won’t be on the line)

Now The Man is getting a chance to get some revenge this year. As per the angle, Becky Lynch has never defeated Asuka in her entire career. (They met twice on the main roster that is at TLC and Royal Rumble 2019) So it’s evident that people would think WWE intentionally created this angle whereas, in reality, it was just a coincidence that the match is happening.

During PW Insider Elite audio, Mike Johnson confirmed that WWE had no intention of making this play out in a long-term way. It is just merely a coincidence that the matchup is happening. The writers did not put any extra effort to write this storyline as a way to make Becky Lynch and Asuka’s story come full circle.

Becky Lynch had a strong championship reign starting from WrestleMania 35. She has fended off challenges from all the relevant opponents. However, Asuka could be the most dangerous one considering that Lynch has never been able to beat her in the past. This is what eats The Man alive as she is ready to face the Empress of Tomorrow at Royal Rumble.

Asuka is the most relevant opponent for Becky Lynch at this point since she is on a roll, as of late since winning the tag team titles. She will now look forward to becoming Asuka 2 Belts on January 26th.
