WWE Bringing Back Mae Young Classic Once Coronavirus Pandemic Is Gone

The Mae Young Classic tournament is one of the WWE Network originals that earned critics praise as well as appreciation from the fans. It was introduced by the WWE back in 2017, which helped the company to bring together some of the brightest female talents and then sort out the most talented women in the business so that they can sign them in a deal for years to come.

The inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament was won by Japanese sensation Kairi Sane. In 2018, another bright talent, Toni Storm won the tournament who has later become the NXT UK Women’s Champion.

It was expected that WWE would eventually bring back the tournament in 2019 which did not happen. A lot of complaints were filed for why WWE did not organize the third edition.

Now, WWE Hall of Famer Triple H gave some positive updates on Mae Young Classic. He revealed in an interview with Inside The Ropes that the 3rd edition of the tournament is being planned.

He did not mention when exactly it would return. But it should happen in 2020 itself once the Coronavirus pandemic is over. Now that’s something that WWE Universe would surely wait for.

Here’s more from Triple H about hosting another Mae Young Classic tournament,

“We’re gonna do it again here soon, and we’re kind of getting to that point again now, like, wow, there is just a lot out there. So they are here and there and they’re all over the place.

I think the talent sort of gravitate toward finding each other and they end up in these little pockets and then they’re all learning from each other but helping to bring that out and show it to the rest of the world is the goal.”

The Game continued about the success of the Mae Young Classic. He was elated to find out the huge chunk of talents who were out together to prove their potential and this is the key reason why the first two editions were this much success.

“Even as aware of the environment, globally, as we are, when we went to go do the Mae Young Classic the first time, and we started to say, oh we’re going to do this tournament with women, are there enough women out there for us to do this?

We’ll do 16, but finding 16 elite women of the caliber that we want to be in this will be a challenge, and then we started to dig and we started to find more and more and next thing you know we’re at 32 and next thing you know, to do a 32 woman tournament, I’m going, hmm, boy, who am I going to put in there and who am I not gonna put in there?”

Mae Young Classic can be considered as one of the key points for the Women’s Evolution that started in 2016. Before this, no one would have ever thought of seeing a pro-wrestling tournament in the WWE that only consists of women superstars. This later gave birth to a fantasy of seeing an all-women pay-per-view event. In October 2018, that too became a reality as WWE put together Evolution PPV and make history, again.
