John Cena returned on WWE TV through an appearance on Smackdown Live. The anticipation was much bigger with the comeback of the franchise figure of the company. Plus, the creative team booked him in such a segment that was more than enough to make the fans go crazy. He featured in a confrontation with Becky Lynch that became a must-see.
This gave birth of a dream match between these two huge popular WWE superstars. We know this kind of match as an inter-gender contest where a male takes on a female one. WWE fuelled this up with a post on the social media. They posted a split picture of these two with the caption ‘Never Say Never’, teasing a dream match for the fans.
While John Cena was challenging a superstar from Smackdown roster, he received a surprise intervention. None other than the former Smackdown Women’s Champion accepted his proposal. She was not out for a physical encounter but for a verbal confrontation. She claimed that it’s her show and the returnee should be careful.
Or else, Nikki Bella would not be the only one to drop him. This was a lit up verbal confrontation that set the internet on fire. Afterward, John Cena and Becky Lynch teamed up on SmackDown Live against Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas and Zelina Vega. Lynch pushed her partner off the ring to lock in the dis-arm-her and get the submission win.
We have not seen John Cena getting owned by somebody like that for a long time. Furthermore, Becky Lynch is the hottest property of the pro-wrestling industry today. Whatever she does, it becomes a sensation. So it became a viral trend on social media. Fans wanted to see a match between them and WWE might have been listening to their pledge.
Even some of the fans reacted to WWE’s post wanting to see this contest at Wrestlemania 35. We hope to see the fallout from this situation in due course. However, an intergender match has become rare in today’s WWE. Earlier the company would have given such matches on a regular basis where male superstars could take on against the female ones.
But it’s the PG era where violence upon women is not tolerated at all. They have prohibited the kinds of segments those we used to see with the Attitude Era Divas like Trish Stratus, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler. So it might be unlikely that WWE sanctions this intergender match between John Cena and Becky Lynch.
