WWE News: Reason Why Bobby Lashley Won Intercontinental Championship
Feb 1, 2019 at 1:22 PM
WWE crowned a new title-holder on Monday Night Raw in the mid-card picture. A triple threat match took place on the show a few days back on WWE Raw over the title. Bobby Lashley defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins to win the Intercontinental Championship. It took place in the most shocking way which we have expected the least.
A dream match in-store at Wrestlemania for Lashley
Dean Ambrose was the former Intercontinental Champion who took his heel game to the very next level. He won the title back in November who was about to have a long run with it. Most probably, this would have lasted until Wrestlemania that came to an abrupt end. There’s a big reason why the officials pulled the trigger.
As per the reports of The Dirty Sheets, Seth Rollins was about to move out of the Intercontinental Championship picture. His lackluster feud with Dean Ambrose was going to end at the beginning of 2019. A new rivalry was about to begin against Bobby Lashley that could last until Wrestlemania 35. Thereafter, he will move onto face Brock Lesnar.

This report suggested the fact that Seth Rollins was always a clear favorite to win the Royal Rumble. This would have finally solidified his spot at Wrestlemania main event. The former champion Dean Ambrose would start a new feud against Finn Balor for his title. This fresh rivalry could be in-store for Wrestlemania as well.
Bobby Lashley came into the picture as a quick backup plan. Braun Strowman had to back out of the Universal Championship picture due to creative change. Finn Balor received the sudden opportunity at Royal Rumble and lost the chance to challenge Dean Ambrose. Seth Rollins might just stretch the feud with his former friend on the Road to Wrestlemania.
There’s an additional reason for Bobby Lashley winning the title as stated via wwfoldschool.com,
“Dirty Sheets also noted that WWE officials decided to put the Title on Lashley instead of having Ambrose feud with some other babyface (like Elias) to please the black WWE fans, as some of them were upset with the return of Hulk Hogan (who returned on RAW last week to pay tribute to his late friend Gene Okerlund).”
Some of the fans were indeed unhappy about Hulk Hogan’s racial comment, multiple years ago. They were not in the side of bringing back the legend on TV. However, it has already happened twice on WWE programming. So Bobby Lashley winning a WWE title after a decade would certainly make them happy.
