WWE hosted the 2019 edition of Draft to split the rosters of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown. In the process, the mixed tag team of R-Truth and Carmella have broken up.
They ended up on separate brands. This made some fans sad considering that the duo has been perhaps the most entertaining in recent times.
Reason why Brock Lesnar headed to SmackDown
Most of the fans may think that it’s a cruel act from the company’s creative heads but they surely have their own reasons for doing this. As stated by a reliable source, both personal cum professional reasons worked behind this unpopular decision.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why WWE broke up R-Truth and Carmella during the 2019 Draft. The 24/7 Championship was the idea of the USA Network officials.
Big return announced for SmackDown
So they wanted the title to stick around their brand. As a result, R-Truth had to stay on Raw as the one who held the title for the most number of times. Carmella could not accompany him on the flagship show since her real-life love interest has headed over to the SmackDown brand.
For those who don’t know, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion is dating WWE commentator Corey Graves from earlier this year. Since the blue brand’s premiere on FOX, both Corey and Michael Cole has moved to Friday nights.
So Carmella had to move to the same brand as WWE does not usually separate the real-life couples. Here’s more from what Meltzer has to say on the situation, (ringsidenews.com)
“If you remember the WWE 24/7 Title, the original idea came from the USA Network. It was like their idea which is funny because the original idea was ‘what can we do for the third hour of Raw so they don’t tune out.’ Of course, within weeks the title had nothing to do with the third hour of Raw, but it is a USA Network idea.”
“R-Truth had to stay there [on Raw], but because Corey Graves got moved to SmackDown, Carmella had to go there, so if you’re wondering why they were broken up, that’s the reason.”
R-Truth and Carmella had spent a great time together on WWE TV entertaining the crowd. They eventually ended up winning the Mixed Match Challenge, too.
But all good things must come to an end, especially in WWE. In this case, it may have come a bit early considering the USA Network had their own standpoint whereas Carmella also had her own personal reason to leave Raw and move to SmackDown.
