Rashid Khan Reveals That He Has Spent Just 25 Days At Home In The Last 5 Years

Rashid Khan plies his trade in several major T20 competitions worldwide. 22 years old Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan is already arguably the most sought out T20 bowler going around.

The talismanic leg-spinner has been instrumental in the rise of Afghanistan cricket. Rashid Khan just doesn’t tend to restrict the run flow but also picks up wickets at regular intervals. In fact, the leggie has shown his prowess in many prominent T20 leagues worldwide.

Rashid Khan Reveals That He Has Spent Just 25 Days At Home In The Last 5 Years Due To Commitments In The Global T20 Leagues

Although Rashid Khan is a global star now, his road to glory hasn’t been easy by any means. The star cricketer had to make tough significant sacrifices to pursue his dreams. The biggest of them is being away from his family. With Rashid Khan playing his trade in international cricket, IPL, BBL, CPL, and PSL, he hardly gets any free time. In fact, he has spent just 25 days at home in the last five years.

“In the last five years I’ve spent about 25 days at home. I didn’t have that opportunity to celebrate my achievement with the family because I was just so busy. I forgot my achievements and that hurts sometimes. I don’t get enough time to be with the family, but at the same time it is the start of my career so I have to struggle,” Rashid told Guardian.co.uk.

Rashid Khan made his One-day International debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe in October 2015 and has become an indispensable part of the national team. The 22-year-old leg-spinner has so far played in five Tests, picking 34 wickets, while in 74 ODIs he took 140 wickets. In the T20 Internationals, he has scalped 95 wickets from 51 outings.

It seems odd to call someone a veteran at 22 years but Rashid Khan is sort of in T20 cricket having played 266 matches in the format spread across IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, Afghanistan, and more.

Rashid Khan Regrets Not To Play An International Match In His Country Afghanistan

It’s a known fact that Rashid Khan takes a lot of pride in representing Afghanistan. However, the youngster is yet to play an international game at home and he regrets it. The Sunrisers Hyderabad star also opined that people will come in large numbers when his country Afghanistan hosts an international game.

“Wherever I go I see international players playing at home in front of their crowds, getting the support, getting all the love; we so much want the same in our country. Our people, they love cricket, they love sport and the moment we have a series back home it will be massive. There will be no single spot to sit,” says Rashid.

Meanwhile, Rashid Khan must gear up to unleash his A-game with the ICC T20 World Cup being months away. The tournament will get underway in October in UAE. Although many are not backing Afghanistan to go far, Rashid Khan would be raring to defy the odds.

Ever since his debut IPL season in 2017, the leg spinner has garnered all the right eyeballs owing to his mastery with the ball. The leg-spinner turned in a few memorable match-winning efforts in SRH’s journey to the finals of the 2018 edition. He took 21 wickets and emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in that edition. He has 85 scalps in 69 IPL games averaging a mere 20.1 at an economic rate of 6.24-the lowest economy rate ever in IPL history.

He has been SRH’s standout bowler over the last few seasons of the IPL. The Afghanistan leg-spinner has grabbed 10 wickets in 7 games in IPL 2021 at an impressive average of 17.20 and a splendid economy rate of 6.14.

CPL 2020: The New Norms Would Never Change Basics Of The Game – Roston Chase

The West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase, who is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2020) for the St Lucia Zouks franchise, has said that the new safety norms will never affect the basic of the games amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The significant change done in the cricket rule is the prohibition of the use of saliva on the ball. International Cricket Council (ICC) had introduced this rule to curb the spread of the virus. But many cricket experts were against this move, saying that the bowlers will be at a disadvantage because they need some assistance to shine the ball.

However, since the new rule has been implemented, two international Test series have been played and bowlers haven’t complained much about the saliva ban. The spinner Roston Chase also believes that the ban on usage of saliva won’t change the ‘basics of the game’.

“Yes, the use of saliva to shine the ball is prohibited [now] but I feel the basics of the game of cricket will never change,” he said confidently while speaking to Indiatoday.in.

Speaking about playing with no fans in the stadium, Roston Chase said that playing in front of a crowd — is always a good feeling but nothing can be done because of the prevailing situation. However, he hopes that next year, they would play with spectators in the stadium.

“It’s always good to have the crowds to play in front of, but with the circumstances that are on right now, I think the guys have to be lenient, playing with just two teams, and support staff.

“Hopefully the next year or whenever we come back to play we can have the crowds. We know all the people in the Caribbean will be locked on, watching on TV this year.”

Meanwhile, Roston Chase is having a decent CPL. He is the highest run-scorer for his team in the seven matches so far, with 170 runs at an average of 34 and has two half-centuries to his name.

For me, Suresh Raina is the nicest cricketer that I have ever met: Daren Sammy

The former West Indies skipper spoke his heart out and said Raina is the nicest cricketer he has ever met. He adores him for his humble nature. Darren Sammy feels the decision of Raina retiring at the same time as Dhoni shows the level of friendship and respect between the Indian duo,

“I know a lot of praises and best wishes have been going to MS Dhoni. But for me Suresh Raina is the nicest cricketer that I have ever met. Nicest international cricketer with full of grace, a very humble player and a very stylish batsman. Jonty Rhodes also rated him as the best fielder in the world. It’s important that we acknowledge his contribution to the game as well.” Daren Sammy told The Times of India.

“I guess for Raina and Dhoni to bow out almost at the same time and on the same day, it shows the level of friendship and the level of respect that Raina has for Dhoni. India lost two great cricketers in the form of their retirement.

“Dhoni I think will be impossible to replace specially as a captain and Raina for the entertainment he has provided over the years with his strokeplay and his fielding and he was something that was entertaining and exciting to watch.” he added.

IPL is the ‘Mecca’ of T20 cricket while CPL is the ‘Mecca’ of entertainment in cricket says, Daren Sammy

Sammy who has played in the IPL in the Sunrisers Hyderabad colours says IPL is the most lucrative T20 league in the World. However, playing in the CPL has its own fun to it mentioned Sammy.

“IPL is the ‘Mecca’ of T20 cricket while CPL is the ‘Mecca’ of entertainment in cricket. This year we had no funds but there is no experience like playing in CPL in front of a full house in the Carribean. In CPL, you have some of the biggest hitters and superstars of the world.

“IPL is the most lucrative in all of the leagues and it’s being played in India – a place where cricket is like a religion. Both have their own special identity. I have enjoyed playing in both the places,” said Sammy.

Pravin Tambe Retires Yet Again After Being Signed Up By Trinbago Knight Riders

Former Mumbai and Rajasthan Royals spinner Pravin Tambe has taken yet another big step towards becoming the first Indian player to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The leg-spinner has announced his retirement to make himself eligible for the tournament. The BCCI does not allow its active players to take part in overseas T20 leagues.

But Pravin Tambe now has his path cleared to play in the CPL. On Monday, he was picked by Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL players’ draft for the sixth edition of the tournament. There were some confusion surrounding Pravin Tambe’s retirement previously. He was earlier suspended for taking part in T10 league after being picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for 20 lakh at the 2020 IPL auctions.

However, a senior Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official has confirmed that the spinner’s current status is “retired”.

“As per the MCA records, his current status is retired. He has recently retired. First he had retired and then he withdrew it and now again he has retired. He has written an e-mail to the MCA in this regard,” the MCA official told PTI on Tuesday.

Pravin Tambe

Last year, the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Manpreet Gony had to retire from international and domestic cricket in order to play in the Global T20 Canada. Pravin Tambe, meanwhile, played 33 IPL games after making his debut in the league at the age of 41. He picked up 28 wickets with an average of 30.5. The leg-spinner also represented Mumbai in two first-class matches.

The CPL will be played between August 18 and September 10. But things could become trickier for Pravin Tambe with Indian government already banning international commercial flights till July 31 due to the pandemic. In case, the travel ban is extended, his dreams will be dashed. The tournament will be held behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
