KL Rahul, who has acquired 743 points, and Australian all-rounder dashing middle-order batsman Glenn Maxwell have climbed a rung each to be placed sixth and seventh respectively in T20I batsmen rankings. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are the only two Indians to feature in the top-10 among batsmen. In the ODI rankings, Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma remained in the top five, occupying the second and third spots respectively, behind Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Kane Williamson Reclaims Top Spot In The ICC Test Batting Rankings

Kane Williamson, New Zealand skipper on Wednesday reclaimed the number one spot in the ICC Test Player Rankings. The 30-year-old Kane Willamson’s crucial knocks of 49 and 52 not out in the low-scoring World Test Championship final against India has helped him move above the 900-point mark.

Kane Williamson now enjoys a 10-point lead over Australian batsman Steve Smith (891 rating points). Kane Williamson, who conceded the top spot to Steve Smith two weeks ago, is back in the position he had first grabbed in November 2015 during a series against Australia.

With 901 rating points, Kane Williamson has a 10-point lead over Steve Smith. Ross Taylor, who scored an unbeaten 47 and partnered in an unbroken 96-run stand with Kane Williamson besides hitting the winning runs, has advanced three places to 14th position while left-hander opener Devon Conway has gained 18 slots to reach 42nd place after top-scoring with 52 in the first innings.

India skipper Virat Kohli remains static at the fourth spot with 812 points. Opener Rohit Sharma also held on to his sixth spot, while Rishabh Pant has dropped one place to seventh. New Zealand’s fast bowlers too have gained after thriving in the seaming conditions, as the player of the match Kyle Jamieson continued the stupendous start to his Test career.

His figures of five for 31 and two for 30 have pushed him up to a career-best 13th position, not surprising since no bowler has taken more Test wickets at a better average than him since 1900.

Ravichandran Ashwin is in second place, while New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Neil Wagner are in the third and fifth spots respectively. Ravindra Jadeja who had become the number one all-rounder in Tests last week has also lost his spot to West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. Virat Kohli Reclaims 5th Spot In The Latest ICC T20I Rankings

Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper has reclaimed his 5th spot in the latest ICC T20I Rankings for batsmen following consecutive unbeaten half-centuries in the last two games against England.

After having registered a duck in the opening T20I encounter, Virat Kohli roared back in form with two high-quality 70+ scores in the last two matches and, as a result, he has swapped places with South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen in the T20I rankings.

Virat Kohli Scores Unbeaten 73 And 77 In Consecutive Matches To Reclaim 5th Spot In T20I Rankings

Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 49-ball 73 in the second T20I to help India overhaul the target of 165 before he backed it up with yet another sumptuous knock of 46-ball 77* that helped India recover from a precarious state of 3/24 to a respectable 6/156 in the third match.

His knock of 77* in the last game was typical Virat Kohli innings in which he initially took his time to settle, assessed the situation before going full throttle at the death overs. The two strokes that Virat Kohli played off Mark Wood- a flat-batted pull over mid-wicket and then a lofted-drive over long-off- were easily the highlight of his innings, which was glittered with eight fours and four sixes.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli, who is ranked No.5 and No.1 in Test and ODIs respectively, is the only batsmen in the world to be ranked in the top-5 across all three formats of the game. He is also the only cricketer to average more than 50 in all three formats.

As far as other players are concerned, England’s Dawid Malan continues to hold on to the numero-uno spot in the ICC T20I rankings for batsmen despite a poor series thus far.

Dawid Malan has scored only 66 runs averaging 33 in the ongoing series but he averages 51.17 in 22 T20Is amassing 921 runs with 1 hundred and 9 fifties.

Devon Conway Enters Top 10 Batsmen Ranking

Aaron Finch and Babar Azam are No.2 and 3 respectively followed by opener KL Rahul, who has swapped his place with Babar Azam after a forgettable first three matches. KL Rahul has managed scores of 1,0,0 in the last 3 games.

KL Rahul remains the top-ranked Indian batsmen at the fourth spot while Shreyas Iyer is up 32 places to the 31st spot while Rishabh Pant gained 30 spots to be ranked 80th. Among bowlers, all-rounder Washington Sundar is up to two places to 11th while seamers Shardul Thakur (up 14 places to 27th) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (up to seven places to 45th) have also gained.

Jos Buttler has re-entered the top 20 after scoring a match-winning 83 not out in the third T20I which has helped him advance five places to the 19th position. Jonny Bairstow, who chipped in with 40 runs has moved up two slots to 14th position in the list led by his compatriot Dawid Malan. Opener Jason Roy has advanced four slots to 24th with scores of 49 and 46 in the first two matches.

Fast bowlers Jofra Archer (up 43 places to 34th) and Mark Wood (up 59 places to 39th), as well as left-arm seam bowler Sam Curran (up 41 places to 74th), has gained in the weekly update for men.

Glenn Maxwell, Martin Guptill, and Hazratulah Zazai have retained their 7th, 8th, and 9th spot in the rankings while Devon Conway has broken into the top-ten list after a productive series against Australia on home soil.

South Africa’s Devon Conway, 29, made his way into the New Zealand cricket set up last year. A predominant top-order batsman for Wellington who opens the batting in T20s, Devon Conway has already become a star for his domestic side and for the Black Caps. Just a few months into his international career, he has sealed his position in the New Zealand top order.

Devon Conway remained unbeaten on 99 off just 59 deliveries with 10 fours and 3 sixes in the 1st T20I while taking New Zealand to a total of 184 after the rest of the top order failed in the 1st T20I. New Zealand went on to beat Australia, in the 1st home T20I. Devon Conway went unsold in the IPL 2021 Auction even though he had set the base price at Rs. 50 lakh. He has amassed 366 runs in 11 matches averaging 52.29 with 3 fifties.

England Dethrones Australia From Top Position In The Latest ICC T20I Rankings

After winning the T20I series against South Africa by 3-0, England has taken the number one position in the ICC T20I team rankings. They have pushed down the Australian team to the second position, who had taken over Pakistan earlier this year.

England were dominant against South Africa in the whole three-match series at their home. David Malan was the star performer in the third ODI for England to seal deal the for them.

The No.1 T20I batsman scored unbeaten 99 runs and stitched up a 167-runs partnership with Jos Buttler, who scored 67 runs off 46 balls, to chase down 192 runs. He also scored a half-century in the second ODI to contribute to the visitor’s win in the low-scoring match.

Well, South Africa gave a tough fight to the World Cup 2019 winners in the series, but they lacked in the full team effort. In the dead rubber, Rassie van der Dussen played sublime innings of 74 from 32 balls. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis did his job after placing a fine half-century (52 of 37) for the team. The duo registered a record stand of the fourth wicket after gathering 127 runs in total. However, Malan and Buttler’s master class made sure that efforts from South Africa were in vain.

England captain Eoin Morgan heaped praise on the team for winning the series.

“Extremely pleasing…..Given the way the wicket got better, Dawid and Jos managed to win the game in such a commanding fashion, that instills a lot of confidence in the changing room,” Eoin Morgan said.

Australia Regain No. 1 Spot In ICC T20I Rankings After Beating England By Five Wickets In Southampton

After beating England by five wickets in the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, Australia has reclaimed their number one spot in the T20I rankings on Tuesday night.

Despite losing the series 2-1, Australia did some hard yards to win the dead-rubber before shifting their focus on ODI series which is scheduled to commence from September 11. The first of the three-match series will kick-off at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Owing to their run chase of 146 in their consolidated victory, despite losing three quick wickets the visitors recover well courtesy Mitchell Marsh’s 36-ball 39, to chase down the target in 19.3 overs.

Besides, between the score of 70 and 87, Australia lost Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch, who scored 26-ball 39 with the help of four boundaries and a solitary six. However, Marsh played a sensible knock to see his side over the line.

England vs Australia: Moeen Ali made captaincy debut

Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to field first. Interestingly, as Eoin Morgan rested himself ahead of the ODI campaign, Moeen Ali was handed over the captaincy — to see hosts posting 145 for six in 20 allotted overs. Ali also became the first player from Asian origin to captain England in any of the formats at the international level.

Australian bowlers bowled brilliantly as Finch shuffled his bowlers well. Adam Zampa managed to pick two wickets in his quota of two overs after conceding 34 runs. However, rest of the lot managed to pick a wicket each including Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

For England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow was the top scorer with 55 off 44 deliveries. He had slammed three sixes and as many fours.

As visitors were chasing the target of 146, they had a flying start with 30 in three overs before lost three wickets for 14 runs. However, it didn’t dent visitors who were already trailing by 2-0 in the series.

The victory in the final T20 has allowed Finch-led side — to reclaim their number spot in the ICC T20 rankings after slipping to number two position owing to the back-to-back losses against England in Southampton.

Australia had now claimed 6,047 points with their rating reading as 275 in 22 T201s, whereas, England had 275 rating points in the same number of matches.

The arch-rivals are followed by India (266) Pakistan (261) with South Africa (258) maintaining the fifth spot in ICC T20I rankings.

They Played Against Some Not So Great Opposition: Harsha Bhogle On How Pakistan Maintained No.1 T20I Team Ranking

Renowned cricket commentator and boffin Harsha Bhogle recently gave a startling statement on how Pakistan national cricket team had maintained No.1 position in the ICC T20I team ranking. Earlier this year, in May, Australia dislodged Pakistan from the top in the ranking, ending their 27-month reign.

In January 2018, Pakistan had overtaken New Zealand to reach the top position, and after reigning for over two years on the No.1 position, they lost their place in May 2020. The reason behind Pakistan’s slump was their below-par performances in the 20-over format during the last few months.

Harsha Bhogle gives the reason why Pakistan was at the top:

Harsha Bhogle has said that Pakistan was able to be the number one T20 team for so long since they “were helped by the fact that they played against some not so great opposition”. Despite this, Bhogle applauded Pakistan for a dominant run, which saw them win 11 series in a row.

“Pakistan spent a lot of time being the world number one in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). They were helped by the fact that they played against some not so great opposition, but you can’t hold that against them. They won 11 series in a row,” Bhogle said on the ICC’s digital show Cricket Inside Out as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

He also applauded the presence of some talented players like Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan who had helped his country to be at the top.

“They had some really good players coming through. There was Fakhar Zaman at the top of the order and their core was in that middle-order, where they got eight overs some days between Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim and both of them could bat too. Plus, Shadab is a brilliant fielder, so there was a nice little side coming together.”

The Pakistan team is currently in England, where they are preparing for the upcoming Test and T20 series. They are scheduled to play three Tests and three T20 Internationals against England, with the first Test starting on August 5 in Manchester and the T20 series beginning on August 28 at the same venue.

Latest ICC Team Rankings: India, Pakistan Lose Top Spots In Test And T20I Team Rankings

In the latest update, India and Pakistan have lost their leading positions in the ICC Test team rankings and ICC T20I team rankings respectively as Australia have moved on top positions in both those rankings. However, England had maintained the top spot in the ICC ODI team rankings.

On Friday (1st May), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has provided an annual update of the team rankings after eliminating the 2016/17 results.

After returning to the top position in the ICC Test team rankings in October 2016, the Indian team hold this leading position for the 43 consecutive months. It was the second-best record to successively hold the top position of the ICC Test team rankings since the ICC officially began ranking teams in 2003 (Australia hold it for 74 months).

Now, Australia have returned to the top position in the ICC Test team rankings after more than 45 months. Previously, they were in this position in August 2016. While Australia have now 116 rating points, India slipped down to the third position with 114 rating points. New Zealand have retained their second spot in the ICC Test team rankings with 115 rating points.

Reason of India lost the top spot in the ICC Test team rankings:

In their official website, the ICC has explained how the Indian team have lost their top place of the ICC Test team rankings.

The ICC statement claimed, “India have yielded the top spot for the first time since October 2016. This is largely because India had won 12 Tests and lost just one Test in 2016-17, the records of which were removed in the latest update.

“They had won all five series during this period including against Australia and England. On the other hand, Australia had lost to South Africa as well as to India in the same period.”

ICC T20I team rankings and ICC ODI team rankings:

On the other hand, in a very similar way, Pakistan have lost their top position of the ICC T20I team rankings to Australia. Pakistan were holding this position since January 2018 and continued for the record 825 days before losing this position. It is the first time ever when Australia have climbed up to the top position in the ICC T20I team rankings.

While Australia are on the top position in latest T20I team rankings with 278 rating points, England and India are in the second and third positions respectively with 268 and 266 rating points respectively. Pakistan have dropped down to the fourth position in the same rankings with 260 rating points.

In the meantime, England have retained the top position in the ICC ODI team rankings (127 rating points) and India have maintained the very next spot with 119 rating points.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Sanjay Bangar Sings the Praises of Shafali Verma

Former Indian batting coach, Sanjay Bangar heaps praise on the sensational batter, Shafali Verma. The Indian batswoman has currently been impeccable with the bat in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The 16-years-old prodigy born has recently topped in the recently revised ICC T20I women’s rankings.

The young woman cricketer has turned all heads as Shafali turns out to be the constant run-scorer in the Women’s T20 cricket. The remarkable batter Shafali has been impeccable with the bat against both, the pace and spinner attack.

Shafali has been able to find boundaries even when batting against a tough competitor like Australia.

Sanjay Bangar lauds Shafali Verma for bringing new perspective in Women’s T20I:

Shafali will play the key role in India’s batting order as the team goes head-on against Australia. The former batting coach of India Men’s cricket team, Bangar has lauded the young batter for her versatility. Ahead of the final game on Sunday, Bangar lauded Shafali for bringing a “fresh perspective” in the Women’s T20I.

“Shafali has been able to do that, and she scores all around the park—that is one quality which not many people have. It is brilliant that we have unearthed such a talent and it has only taken the load off, or provided a fresh perspective to how T20 needs to be played by women cricketers,” said the 47-year-old batting coach.

In the on-going tournament, Shafali has bagged a total of 161 runs while averaging above 40 without even scoring a single half-century.

Meanwhile, Bangar who had previously represented India went on to add that the squad depth of India has been one of the major reasons behind the successful campaign for the T20 World Cup of the team.

He added, “They have been fabulous. Winning four league games out of the four they had to play and the manner in which they won… there is new and young talent emerging which is also performing for the team. Getting to this stage without a big performance from someone like Smriti Mandhana or Harmanpreet Kaur shows the depth which the team possesses. Also, going Down Under and spinners dominating for the Indian team has been a great sign—that has been our area of strength.”

Harmanpreet & Co. will charge against the defending champions, Australia on Sunday in the summit clash scheduled to take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The left-arm spinner scalped a hat-trick in the opening match and became the second Australian bowler to take a T20I hat-trick after former fast bowler Brett Lee.

Consequently, Agar has gained six places in the rankings table. The Western Australian was at the 10th place before the series against the Proteas and now has jumped to fourth place in the rankings. Agar now has 712 rating points and he is hot on the heels of his teammate, Adam Zampa who is at third spot with 713 rating points.

Agar was at his best.

Agar had scalped a five-wicket haul in the first match and bowled accurately throughout the series. On the other hand, KL Rahul was able to hold on to his second position in the ICC T20I rankings, which he achieved earlier in the month.

Rahul was awarded Player for the series in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand as he had scored 224 runs in the five matches. The flamboyant batsman has 823 rating points under his belt.

Australia dominated the series.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli remained at the tenth position in the rankings. Pakistan’s stylish batsman Babar Azam is at the top of the rankings and has 879 rating points under his bag. Interestingly, no Indian bowler is ranked in the top 10 bowlers and Jasprit Bumrah is at the 12th place.

David Warner, who ended the series as the leading run-scorer with 128 runs has jumped from 25th to 18th place. Steven Smith who has shown an upward swing in his T20I game, scored 104 runs in the series. Ergo, he has made a jump of 25 places to take the 53rd position.

South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi who took three wickets in the series made a leap of three places to grab the fifth position.
