West Indies Announced White Ball Squad For Pakistan Tour Commencing On December 13; Jason Holder Rested

West Indies currently lie in the eighth position out of 13 teams and have the opportunity to leapfrog Pakistan into the seventh position. Clive Lloyd: West Indies Played Poor Cricket In Both 2021 T20I WC Matches Versus England And South Africa

Clive Lloyd was wearing green and not maroon to start with for West Indies’ match against South Africa. Clive Lloyd answered with a big smile when asked so, saying that he hopes not wearing maroon changes luck which however did not change as the West Indies put on yet another meek performance, and are staring at an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2021.

With a team full of match winners and franchise stars of the caliber of Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard, it is baffling to see them not stand up to the World Cup test. The 2016 T20I World Cup defending champions have lost all 4 matches in the UAE including the warm-up fixtures.

Clive Lloyd: West Indies Played Poor Cricket And Poor Shots At The Wrong Time Cost Windies Dear

Clive Lloyd is hugely disappointed as West Indies played poorly throwing their wickets away by playing poor shots at the wrong time as was evident after being bundled for 55 against England and finishing on 143/8 which wasn’t a par score. Lendl Simmons was the one to be blamed as he faced 35 balls – of which he attacked just five, including the one-off which he was bowled for 16. Nineteen of his 35 balls were dots and all of his 16 runs came via singles.

“We have played some poor cricket. We should have scored 165 against South Africa to be able to challenge them. Yet again some poor shots at the wrong time cost us dear. The first match was dismal and one would have thought we would pick ourselves up in the next game but that too did not happen. Now we have to win all we can and hope some other results go our way to have a chance in the World Cup. Frankly, as defending champions, this was a very ordinary performance, ” said Clive Lloyd on West Indies putting another dismal performance.

“Everything (laughs). You see you have to take a lot of pride when you play for the national team. You are the select few who get this opportunity. And when it is the World Cup it is about that ultimate mantle. World Champion. You can hold that trophy and tell the world that you are the best team in the world. The entire world. That’s why you play this sport and we played this sport, ” said Clive Lloyd

Of batters who’ve faced 35 balls or more in the history of T20I cricket, this was the second slowest innings of all time. Lendl Simmons had a strike rate of 45.71 in his 16 off 35 balls.

Clive Lloyd: West Indies Made Basic Mistakes In Both Games

Lendl Simmons failed to hit a single six or boundary and it’s unbelievable to imagine how his opening partner Evin Lewis smashed a 35-ball 56 from the other end.

Opener Evin Lewis struck a fine half-century before South Africa restricted West Indies to 143/8. In response, South African batters overhauled the target with 10 balls to spare. Rassie van der Dussen (43 not out), Aiden Markram (51 not out), and Reeza Hendricks (39) played match-winning knocks as West Indies bowlers looked on helplessly.

“It is more than life and death you see. I want these boys to believe they too can experience this. Be a world champion. Unless that happens you will fall short. The hunger has to be of a very different level. That’s what brings out the best in you. That’s when you fight for the last run and the last ball, ” said Clive Lloyd

” Nothing else matters and nothing should matter to these boys except the dream of becoming world champion. No pain, no injury, nothing. Just pursue this dream. We have made basic mistakes in both games. When you have hit two boundaries you don’t need to play another fancy shot in the next ball. Just do the basics right. That’s what has been lacking, ” said Clive Lloyd

After being handed two thrashings, first against England (6-wicket loss) and then to South Africa (8-wicket loss), West Indies face the uphill task of staying in contention for a semifinal spot in the T20 World Cup 2021. Apart from their loss against England and Proteas, West Indies suffered reversals in both their warm-up encounters as well, losing to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Against England, West Indies lost nine of their 10 wickets, looking to hit a four or a six, while 59 of the 86 balls they faced were dots, and they did not attempt to rebuild after losing early wickets. Lendl Simmons (3), Evin Lewis (6), Shimron Hetmyer (9), Dwayne Bravo (5), Nicholas Pooran (1), Kieron Pollard (6), and Andre Russell (0) didn’t contribute much with the bat. Chris Gayle ended as the top scorer for West Indies with 13 runs off 13 balls.

Brief Scores:

West Indies: 143 for 8 in 20 overs (Evin Lewis 56, Kieron Pollard 26); Dwaine Pretorius (3/17) Keshav Maharaj (2/24). South Africa: 144 for 2 in 18.2 overs (Rassie van der Dussen 43, Aiden Markram 52; Akeal Hosein 1/27)

Quinton de Kock Criticised As He Is Axed From Team For Refusing To Take A Knee For The Black Lives Matter Movement

Quinton de Kock’s absence from South Africa’s second T20 World Cup match against 2016 defending champions West Indies was down to his stand on not taking a knee for the Black Lives Matter movement. Ex-Zimbabwe cricketer Pommie Mbangwa has slammed Quinton de Kock over his stance on not taking a knee.

South Africa wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock’s refusal to be a part of the team over the Black Lives Matter (BLM) gesture has left many in the cricketing spectrum infuriated. While Quinton de Kock opted out of the team for the match against West Indies over his unwillingness to take a knee, ex-Zimbabwe cricketer Pommie Mbangwa reacted angrily.

Pommie Mbangwa And Darren Sammy Slams Quinton de Kock For Not Taking The Knee For Supporting Black Lives Matter Movement

While initially, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma didn’t reveal the reason behind Quinton de Kock dropping himself from the squad, rumours of the stumper doing so over his stand against taking the knee went afloat on social media. Temba Bavuma later confirmed the same, too, but as the news went viral, Pommie Mbangwa, who was on-air as a commentator for the match, was left bemused with the development.

“Excuse me for being political, but I cannot shed my skin. I hope that the discussion at the very least is about how to be united about something that everybody agrees on… also in the hope that there is agreement.”

Pommie Mbangwa wasn’t the only one to react in this manner as former West Indies skipper Darren Sammy joined the bandwagon.

Even former West Indies skipper Darren Sammy joined him in saying: “Sometimes I don’t understand: why is it so difficult to support this movement if you understand what it stands for.”

South African cricketers have been seemingly split on the taking a knee for BLM movement issue, and before their T20 World Cup opener against Australia, players were seen standing, kneeling, or raising a fist.

Pacer Anrich Nortje and wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen stood with their hands behind their backs even as their teammates used different ways to express their support to the Black Lives Matter movement. On Tuesday, both these players took the knee with the rest of the squad.

Quinton de Kock And Anrich Nortje Decided Against Taking The Knee In The 1st Match Against Australia

It has also been learned that Quinton de Kock had not taken a knee in South Africa’s first match against Australia either. He, in fact, wasn’t the only one as even pace bowler Anrich Nortje had decided against doing so. After Tuesday’s incident, Cricket South Africa (CSA) released a statement highlighting the entire team needed to stand united on the subject, especially considering the history of the nation.

“Concerns were raised that the different postures taken by team members in support of the BLM initiative created an unintended perception of disparity or lack of support for the initiative. After considering all relevant issues, including the position of the players, the Board felt that it was imperative for the team to be seen taking a united and consistent stand against racism, especially given SA’s history,” the statement read.

As for keeper Quinton de Kock, he hasn’t yet issued a clarification on the subject matter. His future in the Proteas team is also up for debate because of his stance. Whether Quinton de Kock will join the trend to be included in the team or will maintain his stance and continue being sidelined, remains to be seen.

South Africa rallied to complete a third successful chase against West Indies and get their T20 World Cup campaign on track. Quinton de Kock was replaced by Heinrich Klaasen behind the stumps, who made one fumble but was otherwise tidy, and Reeza Hendricks at the top of the order, who set the tone for the chase.

South Africa’s attack kept West Indies to a modest 143, despite an onslaught from Evin Lewis. Lendl Simmons was too slow, Chris Gayle did not come off and West Indies lost 8 for 64 between the 11th and 20th overs to fall short of what might have been a par score – 160. Reeza Hendricks’ 39 laid the groundwork for South Africa before an 83-run stand between Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram sealed victory in the 19th over.

Anrich Nortje was named the Player of the Match for his 1 for 14 from four overs.

South Africa 144 for 2 (Markram 51*, van der Dussen 43*, Hendricks 39, Hosein 1-27) beat West Indies 143 for 8 (Lewis 56, Pretorius 3-17, Maharaj 2-24) by eight wickets

T20 World Cup 2021: Brian Lara Disappointed With Reckless Batting From West Indies Who Scored Only 55 Against England

Brian Lara, the former West Indies captain, wasn’t impressed after watching his country fold for just 55 runs in the first innings of their opening match against England in Dubai in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. West Indies batting collapsed like a pack of cards as England bowlers enjoyed a field day after winning the toss.

Reacting to the reckless batting performance by the West Indies – they were bowled out for the lowest total by an ICC full-member nation in T20 World Cup – the legendary Brian Lara said he doesn’t have words to describe the batting approach. This is also the third-lowest score overall in a T20 World Cup. The overall lowest total in the T20 World Cup still stands with the Netherlands, who were bowled out for 39 in the 2014 World Cup against Sri Lanka.

Brian Lara Disappointed With Reckless Batting From West Indies Against England

A thumping win for England to begin their campaign in the 2021 T20I World Cup, and a bit of a damp squib as far as a repeat of last 2016 final, which was won by defending champions West Indies was concerned. England has a net run rate of 3.970 at this point, and West Indies the minus version of the same number.

West Indies lost nine of their 10 wickets, looking to hit a four or a six, while 59 of the 86 balls they faced were dots, and they did not attempt to rebuild after losing early wickets. Lendl Simmons (3), Evin Lewis (6), Shimron Hetmyer (9), Dwayne Bravo (5), Nicholas Pooran (1), Kieron Pollard (6), and Andre Russell (0) didn’t contribute much with the bat.

Losing all 10 wickets for just 55 runs, Brian Lara said during a Star Sports show covering the match, “It was disappointing, it was reckless, I don’t have words to describe this. As a West Indian, I’m very disappointed.”

Brian Lara said he doesn’t have words to describe the batting approach. Brian Lara’s 375 and 501 not out broke world records for the highest Test and first-class scores. Brian Lara is one of the few batsmen to score above 10,000 runs in both ODIs and Tests.

Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to put the West Indies batting to test at the Dubai International Stadium. Openers Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons initially showed signs of maturity, but that lasted for over. After that, England spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid bowled 6.2 overs for 19 runs and took six wickets between them.

Moeen Ali And Adil Rashid Stars For England

Moeen Ali bowled a superb line with clever variations in pace to dismantle the top-order. His figures of 2/17 in four overs included wickets of Lendl Simmons and Shimron Hetmyer. With pacers Tymal Mills, Chris Woakes, and Chris Jordan also pitching in with regular wickets from the other end, the West Indies backbone was jolted. West Indies did pick four wickets, three inside the powerplay, but the target of 56 was always chasable.

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid

Soon, Adil Rashid unleashed one of the best spells of T20 spin bowling to capture four wickets in his quota of 2.2 overs. He bowled 12 dot balls, conceding only two runs. Finally, Chris Gayle ended as the top scorer for West Indies with 13 runs off 13 balls.

In reply, England stumbled a bit but overhauled the target in 8.2 overs and with six wickets remaining. Adil Rashid takes 4 for 2 as England bowl West Indies out for 55 and completes the chase inside nine overs. West Indies’ lowest T20I score is 45, against England in 2019.

Aakash Chopra Shocked At 2016 Defending T20I World Cup Champions West Indies Batting Display Against Pakistan

Aakash Chopra has criticized the West Indies’ timid batting approach in their T20 World Cup warm-up encounter against Pakistan.

The West Indies managed just 130/7 in their allotted 20 overs against Pakistan. However, the Babar Azam-led side chased down the 131-run target easily with seven wickets in hand and 27 deliveries to spare.

Aakash Chopra Criticizes West Indies’ Timid Lacklustre Batting Approach In Warm-Up Game Against Pakistan

While reviewing the West Indies-Pakistan encounter in a video shared on his YouTube channel, questioned the Kieron Pollard-led side’s batting approach.

He said: “What were the West Indies players doing? What were they waiting for? I mean when will you hit, will you hit or not? The most surprising part was that they weren’t even trying.”

Chris Gayle PTI

The former India cricketer added that the West Indies’ excruciatingly slow batting was unbecoming of the defending champions.

Aakash Chopra elaborated: “Did nobody tell them that it was a T20 encounter and not a Test match or an ODI where it will work by going extremely slowly. Here, in the race between a hare and a tortoise, it’s not the tortoise but the hare who wins. It didn’t look like they were anything like the defending champions.”

The West Indies scored just 68 runs in the first 15 overs of their innings and also lost four wickets in the bargain. None of their top four batters – Lendl Simmons, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, and Roston Chase – scored at even run-a-ball. Lendl Simmons (18 of 23), Andre Fletcher (2 of 6), Chris Gayle (20 of 30), and Roston Chase (9 of 13) failed.

Aakash Chopra: Kieron Pollard Only Batsman To Show Big Hitting Prowess

While lauding Pakistan’s disciplined bowling effort, Aakash Chopra was slightly disappointed with Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran’s batting efforts. Shimron Hetmyer scored 28 off 24 balls while Nicholas Pooran scored run a ball 13.

He pointed out: “Of course, Pakistan was bowling well, Imad Wasim with the new ball and all of that, and Shaheen and Hasan but try at least, throw the bat at least. Hetmyer made 28 runs with three boundaries, Pooran again run-a-ball 13, not really looking that great.”

Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard(Getty Images)
The 44-year-old concluded by stating that Kieron Pollard was the only West Indies batter to show his big-hitting prowess. Kieron Pollard scored an unbeaten 23 off 10 balls, including 5 fours, to give some respect to the total after they managed only 108 in 18.4 overs.
Aakash Chopra observed: “Pollard comes later and hits five fours in an over from Haris Rauf and tells you that you can bat like that. When you can bat like that, why were the batters up the order not hitting? When will they hit? What is this team? When they start hitting, everyone can hit and if they don’t, no one feels like hitting.”
Nicholas Pooran’s six off Shaheen Shah Afridi’s bowling was the only maximum of the West Indian innings. The explosive batting lineup also hit just 14 fours during their batting effort.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf took 2 wickets while Imad Wasim was economical. Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman hit an unbeaten 46, and skipper Babar Azam scored a 50 as Pakistan chased the target successfully in the middle of the 16th over.

Almost half of Chris Gayle’s inning was filled with boundaries as the West Indies opener smashed 13 fours and 17 sixers. The Universe Boss was going berserk against every bowler.

Meanwhile, in the end, he finished his knock at unbeaten 175 off 66 deliveries at a massive strike rate of 265.15. With the help of his century, RCB posted 263/5 on the board. During the chase, PWI was unable to give a tough fight to the opposition and in 20 overs they scored 133 at the loss of 9 wickets.

However, after that fans witnessed a batting master class by two of the greatest batsmen of the generation. Former Proteas batsman AB De Villiers and Indian masterclass batsman Virat Kohli. Both the batsmen brought in the storm and destroyed the opposite bowling unit.

Danish Kaneria Picks West Indies, England, India As 2021 T20I World Cup Final Contenders

Danish Kaneria, former Pakistan leg-spinner has opened up on which teams participating in the 2021 T20I WC could make it to the final of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Groups for the showpiece event were drawn on Friday and there are some interesting match-ups to watch out for.

Group A can be considered the ‘Group of Death’ with the likes of West Indies, Australia, England, and South Africa in it. However, Danish Kaneria believes the way West Indies have thumped Australia 4-1 in the T20I series, they will be one of the favorites to make it to the final.

Danish Kaneria: India Favourites To Make It To The 2021 T20 World Cup Final

Speaking to India News, Danish Kaneria also backed England to give defending champions 2016 T20I World Cup winner West Indies strong competition and make it to the final. Group B consists of India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan so far. Danish Kaneria had no hesitation in stating that India is overwhelming favorites from this group to make it to the final.

“If I look at Group 1, the way West Indies have formed their team and the way they are playing against Australia, they are strong contenders. Between West Indies and England I think one team will make it to the final.

“In Group 2, India have quality cricketers and all-rounders. IPL 2021 phase two will happen before the T20 World Cup so it will favour India make it to the final because the players will be in touch,” Danish Kaneria stated.

Danish Kaneria: From The Commercial Point Of View India And Pakistan Match Would Generate A Lot Of Revenue

India and Pakistan have once again been drawn in the same group for the T20 World Cup and Danish Kaneria feels it is an exciting moment for fans from both countries. As India and Pakistan don’t play bilateral cricket against each other, their encounters in ICC events are always highly anticipated. Danish Kaneria feels the match will also help the ICC financially as viewership increases in India-Pakistan games and it makes a difference in the revenue generated.

“India-Pakistan games and viewed more than the Ashes. India and Pakistan are not playing bilateral series. So people wait with anticipation for the times when these two teams meet in ICC events. From the commercial point of view this would also generate a lot of revenue,” Danish Kaneria signed off.

India and Pakistan have not played the Test series for more than 14 years. As far as bilateral series in ODIs and T20Is are concerned, it has been over eight years. While they face off each other during ICC events and Asia Cup. The political tension between the two neighbouring countries flared up after the terror attack in Mumbai’s Taj Hotel.

Pakistan and India’s last bilateral ties at either of the two neighbouring countries were 2 T20Is and 3 ODIs in India way back in 2012.

IPL 2020: 5 Cricketers Who Can Earn Late Call-Up As The Replacement

The much-awaited IPL 2020, which will be the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, is going to begin soon. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the entire IPL 13 between 19th September and 10th November 2020.

Since last March, the world cricket was stopped due to the pandemic, which also forced to postpone the IPL 2020 (it was earlier scheduled between 29th March and 24th May 2020). Recently, the game has been restarted globally and the IPL franchises are also ready to begin their journey in the IPL 2020.

Though all the franchises have almost sorted out their full squad ahead of the IPL 2020, still they can look at some other players for the replacement purpose in the late period of the forthcoming cash-rich tournament.

Here we are talking about the top five cricketers who can earn the late call-up in the IPL 2020 as the replacement

Roston Chase

The 28-year-old Caribbean all-rounder Roston Chase is currently in great form in every format. After winning the Player of the Series award in the Test series in England (England cricketer Stuart Broad also won the Player of the Series award in that Test series), Chase continued the same form in the recently concluded CPL 2020.

Serving for St Lucia Zouks in the CPL 2020, Chase scored 225 runs (average 37.50) and also took 9 wickets in 11 matches. During that tournament, he scored two fifties, including his best T20 knock 66 runs.

Though he hasn’t very high experience in the T20 cricket (16 matches) and also has no experience in the IPL, his latest form is enough to bring a new opportunity in the IPL. Due to the same ownership in the CPL and IPL, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) can obviously add him in the squad during the IPL 2020 as a foreigner replacement. Also, other IPL franchises can look at him similarly.

The eighth season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2020) just finished on 10th September after Trinbago Knight Riders clinched their fourth CPL title by beating St Lucia Zouks (by eight wickets) in the final of this tournament at Brian Lara Cricket Academy (Tarouba).

We didn’t see many high-scoring games during the CPL 2020 as most of the batsmen were not consistent enough during the entire tournament. While many overseas players were unavailable for this tournament due to the pandemic, the Caribbean cricketers are dominating in the most run-scorer list of this tournament.

Here we are talking about the top five most run-scorers in the CPL 2020

Nicholas Pooran (Guyana Amazon Warriors) – 245 runs
