Speculations have been ongoing around the internet on WWE being unable to use “The Man” gimmick for Becky Lynch. There have been conflicts with this catchphrase around the RAW Women’s Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair as both these names referred to themselves under the same shtick. Hence, the belief was that the two could have had some disputes over the trademark.
Following WWE Day 1, Becky Lynch made a tweet with rappers The Migos which was an apparent jab at Flair. Flair mentioned in that tweet how WWE and Lynch are unable to use “The Man” these days because they don’t own the trademark.
Becky Lynch Claims Of Criticizing Roman Reigns For WWE Wrestleamnia Backlash 2022
“The Mood Is Night & Day! One’s Real & One’s Make Believe! She’s Big Time, But There’s No Drip, And There Never Will Be! And I Thought She Was THE MAN, But I Guess Not Because They Don’t Own It! HA! When Are You Going To Give Up @BeckyLynchWWE? You’re So Far Behind! WOOOOO!” Flair mentioned this in his tweet which has since been deleted.
Reason Becky Lynch stopped using The Man gimmick
In an update, Fightful Select reported that Becky Lynch stopped using “The Man” as her nickname because she and WWE wanted her to move away from it. For the time being, she’s been trying to flourish her current character which goes by the shtick of Big Time Becks. This has nothing to do with Flair claiming that The Man is exclusive property of him.
It should also be noted that while Becky Lynch is using “Big Time Becks” as her current moniker, WWE still has merchandise available in the market with “The Man” t-shirts, and they are also legally able to use the nickname whenever they want. The USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) shows that both WWE and Flair have copyrights to use trademarks for “The Man” name.
Fan Suspended After Advising WWE Superstar Paige To Take Her Own Life
The Man moniker became infamous in the WWE in early 2019 as the builds continued for the first-ever Women’s Wrestlemania main-event match. Ric Flair then filed for The Man trademarks on August 22, 2019, and August 26, 2019, because he felt like those intellectual properties belonged to him since he had used that name for years in his career.
Nothing much was since heard in this matter as both parties buried the hatchet. Becky Lynch is portraying a stylish in-ring character, these days. The former Raw Women’s Champion successfully defended her title at the Royal Rumble 2022 PPV event but she lost the belt to Bianca Belair at Wrestlemania 38.
