Two times WWE Hall of Famer Booker T who is also a former five times WCW World Heavyweight champion and a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion recently talked about his King of the Ring win in 2006. He said that he was the best King of the Ring winner.
King of the Ring had been a major event in WWE since 1985. Yes, the tournament is as old as Wrestlemania. Primary Lee the tournament was a 16 man tournament from the very beginning of its existence. Even though, in 2000 WWE arranged a 32 man King of the Ring tournament. But that was the only time the tournament was organized with 32 men. It is mostly famous for being a 16 man tournament.

But the event was dropped after 2002 and there has been no pay per view named King of the Ring since. But the tournament has been organized a number of times. WWE took 4 years to organise another King of the Ring tournament. But this time the tournament was only an 8 man tournament. Booker T won this tournament and named himself King Booker.
A lot of fans make a mistake that it was the first time the WWE decided to held an 8 man tournament, which is not right. The first time WWE held and 8 man King of the ringtone event was in 1997 which was won by Triple H. The King Booker gimmick became extremely famous among the fans and it is still very much talked about. It showed the entire world of professional wrestling what Booker was capable of as a heel. The run was excellent and it was quite impactful.
Booker T who is also a former five time WCW World Heavyweight champion and a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion recently on the latest edition of his Hall of Fame podcast talked about his King of the Ring win. He said that he was the best King of the Ring winner. He said;
“For me, I’ve always been able to make something out of nothing. For me, the King of the Ring tournament was a moment for me to be able to actually be in that position to wear the crown. Then again, when you get that position, it’s what you make out of it. I want to talk about some of the chatter I’ve been seeing on the internet as far as the greatest King of the Ring.
“I want to figure out what is the make up, and what it is that you are looking for as far as King of the Ring winners. I know I was the best King that ever wore the crown. I’m not just saying that because it’s me. I’m saying that because that actor who played that role so well, his a** should get an Academy Award for some of the stuff that he did. No one did more with the King of the Ring and the crown than I, all the way to capturing the World Heavyweight Championship.
“Even now, King Booker action figures are the top seller as far as action figures go. You can’t find one. They are almost extinct. They go so quick (he laughs). They’ve made 7 or 8 different King Booker action figures. That doesn’t happen by accident. Me, carrying that role the way I did, that didn’t happen by accident. Me, creating that role, the way it came across, did not happen by accident.”
