Carmella has just begun a new journey in her career and personal life. On the evening of her 34th birthday, she got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Corey Graves. The two made their relationship public on an episode of Total Divas two years ago. Plus, the two also gave an in-depth look at their bond during that season.
From the career perspective, Carmella has always bled blue since she was a resident of the Smackdown brand since the brand extension draft in 2016. This year Draft witnessed her picked by the Raw brand for the first time in her career as she expects some new opportunities lying in front of her. But it appears that her in-ring work may not be appreciated at all due to her gorgeous looks.
Carmella: Wendy’s And Corey Graves React To WWE Raw Superstar’s Photos
As a guest on the latest episode of the WWE After the Bell Podcast hosted by Corey Graves, himself, Carmella joined the show to talk about the current state of WWE NXT. Additionally, she also shed light on her WWE character.
Corey Graves reminded Carmella about Mandy Rose’s recent comments about wanting to be respected for what she does in the ring and not just being a pretty face. His girlfriend responded with a “good luck” phrase as she simply denied getting that chance.
Carmella’s gorgeousness overshadowed her performance
The newest member of the RAW women’s division revealed having a conversation she had with a coach in NXT who reminded her to work harder than everyone else based on her pretty looks. The idea that you can’t be pretty and good in the ring at the same time, makes her irate. This is why she feels that she or Mandy won’t ever be respected just because they’re pretty.
“Good luck, because when you’re pretty, that doesn’t happen,” Carmella said. “That fires me up, it really does. I get so upset when I hear something like that because [Mandy] is pretty, and she’s a babe, and she has a great body then she can’t be good in the ring. She just can’t.”
“That’s what I did. I was the last draft pick when I came to SmackDown and I busted my butt and made history left and right. I’ve done amazing things in this business and I’m not sorry for them, I’m not apologizing for that and I’m proud of myself for that. No matter what, I’m never going to get the respect that I deserve because of how I look and that’s just how it is. If I didn’t look like this and I had the same matches and same career, people would be like ‘Carmella is amazing, we love her.’ Because I look how I do, I’m not going to get the respect that I deserve.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
Carmella also mentioned that she was the last draft pick in 2016 who made her way to the top by working as hard as possible. This is the reason she became a Smackdown Women’s champion, the night after Wrestlemania 34. But sadly her gorgeous aspect always overshadowed the performer aspect of hers. Hopefully, things will change for her as she switched brands after more than five years.
