Cody Rhodes is one of the most inspiring figures in the sports entertainment industry, today. After having a fallout with the WWE, he decided to leave the WWE for good and then go on to form an alliance with top executives which led to the birth of AEW. That being said, he’s one of the admitted rival personas for the WWE.
Reports suggest that Cody Rhodes has been working at AEW without a contract, for the time being. Rhodes has been with the company since day one and he is also one of the founding figures of the company. But since the TNT Champion is a free agent, chances are there that he could be a surprise entrant at WWE Royal Rumble 2022 especially after rumors are rife about WWE bringing some forbidden door entrants to the match.

However, going by the recent comments by Cody Rhodes on Sports Illustrated, it’s certain that the former WWE Intercontinental Champion is still on good terms with the AEW and he’s not likely to enter in an association with the WWE,
“As of now, my future is with AEW. AEW would be very strange without the core members of the revolution. We (the EVP’s) all still talk. We all have this admiration for each other. I can’t see myself anywhere else, and I’m very optimistic about what the future holds.”

Cody Rhodes is working in AEW without a contract
It was Sean Ross Sapp who reported via Fightful Select that Cody Rhodes has been working without a contract since the end of 2021. That makes him technically a free agent. The source has reached out to the concerned person but he denied making any comments on the matter.
“Fightful Select has learned that the current AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is technically a free agent. Cody’s contract expired at the end of 2021, and he’s been working in All Elite Wrestling without a contract ever since.
Based on sources we followed up with in AEW this morning, we’re told that some have known about this over the past several weeks.”

In more update to the situation from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, any AEW involvement at Royal Rumble 2022 was ruled out. Therefore no surprise appearances would be there on the AEW roster. So fans speculating about entries like Cody Rhodes or the former WWE Champion Jon Moxley aka Dean Ambrose shouldn’t become a reality.
