As reported earlier, the Wrestling Observer noted that a triple threat match will take place at Survivor Series. It will feature the mid-card title-holders from the Raw roster.
On that note, it’s evident that it will happen between the United States Champion, Intercontinental Champion and NXT North American Champion keeping the Brand vs. Brand war theme intact for the pay-per-view event.
So this particular match at Survivor Series should have AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura and Roderick Strong on the card. However, there could be a big title change in due course as noted in a report by wwfoldschool.com. It suggests that the Intercontinental Championship will change hands. Undertaker appearing at Survivor Series?
Daniel Bryan will dethrone Nakamura from his lackluster title reign and thereby claim the mid-card title for good. There’s a strong reason behind the switch as noted below,
“Word going on is that there’s a chance Daniel Bryan ends up defeating Nakamura before the Survivor Series PPV to become the new Intercontinental Champion and thus replace Nakamura in the above stated triple threat match.
This would also make sense since Styles, Nakamura, and Strong are all heels, and Bryan is a babyface now – so his addition would make sense.”
WWE has been keeping these kinds of surprise title changes before Survivor Series PPV for two years on a row, now. Back in 2017, AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal before the PPV and ended up facing Brock Lesnar.
A year later, Lesnar was scheduled to face AJ Styles at Survivor Series. But he lost the Daniel Bryan just prior to the show. This produced a dream match between Bryan and Lesnar, last year.
Such sudden title changes before a PPV can garner the maximum attention from the audience. Hence, you never know whether the creative team will pull off another such title change.
Meanwhile, the interesting thing is that Daniel Bryan may have already been inserted into a Universal Championship feud. The new champion, The Fiend Bray Wyatt attacked him from behind on this week’s SmackDown to initiate this rivalry. We’ll have to wait and see which route Daniel Bryan takes leading up to Survivor Series.
