Drew McIntyre set to be a top Draft pick

WWE is gearing up for another draft that will be hosted in the early part of October and Drew McIntyre is going to be one of the top picks, as per the rumors. Going by the happenings on TV, it seems WWE has already been hinting the same for the past few weeks. This is the reason that one of the most protected Superstars of last year has been downgraded in recent times.

Drew McIntyre couldn’t challenge for the WWE Championship as long as Bobby Lashley was the reigning champion (according to the stipulation of their Hell in a Cell match, which McIntyre lost). Then he suffered a clean pinfall loss in a triple threat United States Championship match on RAW by the champion Damian Priest.

A week later, Drew McIntyre once again suffered pinfall loss at the hands of bitter rival Sheamus for another title shot to the US Title. As Sheamus heads on to Extreme Rules to compete in the title match, it appears that the former WWE Champion could be sitting out of the pay-per-view event.

Drew McIntyre is likely to be involved in the title picture

Reports from June first noted that WWE Officials were discussing Drew McIntyre to move to SmackDown from Raw during the Draft, which is scheduled to take place in October. Then Wrestling Observer has also accepted the news on their reports mentioning that there are indeed some plans to move him to the blue brand. This move will most likely lead to a program with Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in the fall of this year.

Last year, Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns took place at Survivor Series 2020 in a lineup of WWE Champion vs. Universal Champion matchup. Reigns, being the most protected guy on the roster, picked up the win to keep his undefeated streak intact. But after the match, the Scottish Warrior noted how he is destined to cross paths with The Tribal Chief, again.

That being said, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Drew McIntyre ends up becoming that Superstar to defeat Reigns for the Universal Championship and thereby get back his top status. However, plans could change in due course. As of now, the UK-native is booked in random tag team matches on Raw which is an indication that nothing much is reserved for him on the red brand. This, in turn, is setting him up for a fresh start on SmackDown from this October onward.
