Before 2023, WWE Universe in India never had the opportunity to see John Cena in action on their home turf despite him being the most popular superstar in the territory. So, they were more than excited to have him on board with the roster for Superstar Spectacle 2023. Being the WWE franchise player for almost 15 years, his name easily added more value to WWE’s return to the Indian show.

Originally, John Cena returned to WWE for a two-month season as his Hollywood schedule was stuck due to the SAG-AFTRA Strike. The 16-time World Champion thus got the opportunity to have a trip to India for a WWE event, and thereby compete in a first-ever match. Obviously, he didn’t travel alone unlike most of the WWE Superstars.

John Cena is not only a WWE Superstar but he’s also a bonafide Hollywood Superstar with whom comes a lot of security issues. On that note, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter informed that The Cenation Leader traveled to India with a “large security team.” This team was in charge of protecting the top WWE Superstar before and after the event,

“Cena had a large security team with him at all times before and after the show.”

John Cena was happy to be performing for the Indian audience

Per the earlier reports of Ringside News, John Cena’s WWE return was helped out by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. His return was already said to be on the cards when that strike began. As WWE doesn’t have a union, their former franchise player could have come in on short notice until the situation in Hollywood gets sorted out. WWE thereby strategically used him in the Indian show to gain even more attention than expected.

In the main event of Superstar Spectacle 2023, John Cena and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins defeated Imperium (Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci) in a tag team match. The finish saw both the men hitting their respective finishers (Attitude Adjustment and Pedigree) to earn a double pin-fall win.

After the match, John Cena took the mic and addressed the WWE audience in India for giving him the opportunity to compete in front of them for the first time in his career. He admittedly received some memories that will be cherished for years to follow.
