Maria Kanellis is quite happy with the current status of her wrestling career where she can use her brainchild ideas for the betterment of the women’s division. Obviously, it’s not for the WWE but rather the rival brand Ring of Honor promotion where she is currently signed with her husband Mike Bennett-Kanellis.
Those who have been following the career of Maria Kanellis, know that she’s no stranger when it comes to adultery gestures. One of the strangest stories from her journey was recently shared as she had probably flashed her assets to two of the legendary names of professional wrestling. (Flashing to the wrestlers was quite normal those days as things were non-PG and WWE even did it on TV)
Maria Kanellis Claims WWE Would Never Host Evolution PPV, Again
Former WWE star and a current Ring of Honor talent, Maria Kanellis recently appeared on the Wrassingh Show to talk about her journey in wrestling. She revealed that she had been a fan of wrestling ever since she was a kid. One of her fond memories was that she attended a wrestling show with her then-boyfriend. The last Playboy Cover girl from WWE was so excited that she ended up flashing to the legendary Hardy Boyz.
“I was!” Maria Kanellis answered after getting asked whether she grew up as a wrestling fan. “I watched it with my brother when we were kids. I broke my brother’s nose while doing wrestling moves on him when we were little little kids and then I got back into it when I was in high school. I went to a show when I was like 19 years old and um there was a big window where the Hardy’s were and they were doing a signing. So my boyfriend at the time, put me up on his shoulders and I flashed the Hardy Boys because I was just so excited to be there!”
Maria Kanellis Blasts WWE For Not Having A Pay Hike In 5 Years
Maria Kanellis was one of the most popular female Superstars in WWE during her first tenure from 2005 to 2010. In this phase, she had actually wrestled in the ring while afterward, she mostly served as a manager to her husband, Mike Bennett, around Japan, ROH, and even during her second WWE tenure.
Maria Kanellis on best in-ring chemistry with fellow wrestlers
The host asked Maria Kanellis on whom she clicked the best as a wrestler, as she mentioned three fellow performers.
“I had a lot of chemistry with Beth’s Phoenix. I loved tagging with Mickie James. I also had a lot of matches with Michelle McCool, so I had a lot of great chemistry with several of the girls. Everybody was pretty safe. The only time that things weren’t safe was when we were forced to wrestle in our heels or our bikinis or we didn’t have the proper gear. So that was the most dangerous part during that time. It had nothing to do with the girls I was in the ring with, it had everything to do with what WWE management wanted us to wear.”
During the interview, Maria Kanellis also discussed the aspect of Women’s Evolution in WWE and who exactly helped pioneer that process. According to the First Lady, there are so many important women in WWE history that can’t really be pinpointed. Also, she took a shot at the WWE management for not recognizing the female talents in the early days,
“Unfortunately, the WWE management was not talented enough to understand that women’s wrestling could be viewed as respected and could be viewed as important. So for me, there are too many to name but I would definitely say that there are, from every single era, there are women that have added to this industry and have created opportunities for others.”
