In memory of Chyna: Her top 5 moments in WWE

Some of the best memories in the Divas division back in the 90’s was given first by the first ever standout Diva of the roster, Chyna. It was the first time that we have seen a female athlete going toe-to-toe with the men dominated industry. She was the one who changed the definition of women’s wrestling, she let us know that women were not only made for eye-candy acts and they could actually wrestle. She debuted as Triple H’s bodyguard and not as an eye-candy, which was the rarest case. Since then Chyna established herself as a trailblazer of the wrestling industry, who paved the way for champions like Trish Stratus, Lita, Ivory who reminds us the word ‘champion’. She was so popular at 90’s that once Vince McMahon thought of giving the ninth wonder of the world with the World heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately, she was banned from the company after her relationship with Triple H came to an end when Triple H was pursuing Stephanie McMahon. But before that, she gave us with some never-before and maybe never again moments in WWE. Here are the top 5 from those moments:

  1. Chyna’s debut

Chyna debuted at WWE program In Your House when HHH was wrestling Rocky Maivia (The Rock) and Goldust with valet Marlena interfered in the contest to let Rocky win. Chyna came out of the crowd to attack Marlena who got choked in Chyna’s hold. The guards had to free her from a never-before-seen specimen of women who was not so ‘women’-ish. Later, it was found that Chyna was Triple H’s bodyguard. Chyna would later go on to be a part of the first version of DX with Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

  1. First qualifier in a Royal Rumble match

The beginning of 1999 saw a rivalry between the Corporation and DX. Mr. McMahon announced a corporate Royal Rumble which will decide the #30 entry of the upcoming Royal Rumble. Vince came out as the secret entry at the last moment and eliminated Triple H and Big Boss Man who were busy eliminating each other. Just when Vince thought he had won, Chyna entered as the last member of DX and eliminated Vince to become the first woman to enter the Royal Rumble ever.

  1. The first woman to enter the Royal Rumble

Chyna was a path-breaker for women’s division in many ways. She had the guts to stand in the ring and go toe-to-toe with the male wrestlers. She created history when she entered the 1999 Royal Rumble as the first woman ever. She lasted only 35 seconds in the mayhem before getting eliminated by Stone Cold but the moment when she was entering the prestigious Royal Rumble, was iconic. Before that, a woman in the Royal Rumble was unthinkable.

  1. The first woman to enter into the King of the Ring tournament

Chyna broke the perceptions of the way that people had known women in the wrestling industry for years. After creating history by entering the Royal Rumble Chyna set another milestone in June 1999 when she entered into the King of the Ring tournament as the first woman. She beat Val Venis to move to the quarter-final but got defeated by Road Dogg. Her participation in the tournament itself made the tournament a huge success which was a stale, another way. She was the first one who regularly wrestled the male wrestlers which itself is a record. She even is the first and only women in history who participated in a no.1 contender match for WWE championship.

  1. The first woman to hold the Intercontinental championship

No moment in her career is as important as this one. This was not only important for herself, it was a path-breaking moment in the entire pro-wrestling industry when he won the Intercontinental championship. She defeated Jeff Jarrett to become the first woman to hold the prestigious WWE Intercontinental Championship. She had a feud with Jarrett for months and as he was acting as a sexist at the time, the final victory over him winning the championship means so much. It marked Jarrett’s last match in WWE, who moved to WCW after that.
