After having quite the time with the North American Title, Dominik Mysterio finally dropped the belt at NXT No Mercy 2023. This could have possibly ended his ongoing stint on the NXT brand for the time being alongside the WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley.
As seen on the NXT No Mercy 2023, Trick Williams defeated “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio (c) to win the NXT North American Championship. This was the second bout of the night (including the pre-show bout between Blair Davenport and Kelani Jordan, it appeared to be the third bout) and it also marked the first time that Trick tasted a championship win in his WWE career.

Dragon Lee was involved in the NA Title Match at NXT No Mercy 2023
To add a whole new dimension to this match at NXT No Mercy 2023, Dragon Lee was appointed as the special guest referee as he has had his issues with ‘Dirty Dom’ heading into the PLE. Lee had a vengeful mind against Dom and at one point, Mysterio aimed a superkick at Williams but the latter dodged it. That superkick took Lee out of the equation.
A new referee was brought into the equation but he was also taken out of the equation via the intensity of the matchup. Moving on, Mysterio grabbed the North American title belt and tried to use it as a weapon. Trick again dodged the mean antics of the Raw roster member and he ended up striking Dom with a jumping knee assisted by the championship to secure the pinfall win as well as the gold at NXT No Mercy 2023. Eventually, Lee came back and counted the final pin in favor of Trick.

Originally, Mustafa Ali was scheduled to challenge for the North American Championship at NXT No Mercy 2023 by going up against Dom. But he was released despite being announced as the new number-one contender for the title. Then Trick won a fatal-4-way also featuring Dragon Lee, Axiom, and Tyler Bate to become the new challenger for the mid-card title on NXT.
Before losing the North American Title at NXT No Mercy 2023, Dominik Mysterio enjoyed 74 days as the reigning champion since winning the gold in July of this year by dethroning Wes Lee. He had title defenses against the likes of Mustafa Ali or Dragon Lee in recent weeks.
