Randy Orton is a veteran in the professional wrestling industry who had already spent more than 20 years in the WWE, right now. He’s one of the rare talents from the old-school era who is still willing to go full-time when it comes to in-ring competition. He has consistently competed in the WWE ring, starting from 2002 and he won’t be stopping, anytime soon.
At present, The Viper is absent from WWE TV due to an injury hiatus and he’s not likely returning, anytime soon due to the severity of it. As seen on TV, Randy Orton was written off WWE television after a vicious attack by The Usos after Team RK-Bro failed to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. This happened because he was already dealing with nagging back injuries for some time.
WWE Raw: Randy Orton’s Absence Caused Cancellation Of 2 Major Plans
It was also added in reports that Randy Orton needs back surgery as well. In addition, PWInsider recently implied that the 14-time world champion will be sidelined for a bit longer. WWE Universe has been waiting for him to be back on TV, possibly seeking vengeance against The Bloodline. However, it looks like that won’t be happening, anytime soon. It was noted that he had “extended time off” due to the injury.
Randy Orton suffered a major attack on TV in May
During the May 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Team RK-Bro faced Jimmy and Jey in a Title Unification Match where both Raw and Smackdown tag team titles were on the line. Courtesy of interference from Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Riddle lost that title match opportunity as The Bloodline emerged with all the gold.
As noted above, Randy Orton was also brutally assaulted by the heel faction after which Fightful Select informed that WWE Officials fear that if he requires surgery, then he’ll miss the rest of 2022,
“We’re told that things have gotten progressively worse, and WWE fears that Orton will be forced to undergo a surgery. WWE sources that we spoke to said that if that happens, Orton would likely be out of action the rest of 2022. Thus far, the exact injury is unknown.”
WWE was originally planning to do Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton in the main event of SummerSlam 2022 but obviously, the injury canceled those plans. Instead, Brock Lesnar returned to set up a Last Man Standing Match against Reigns.
