The former WWE NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez has been dating former WWE Superstar Braun Strowman for quite some time. The duo could have been presented as the next power couple in the WWE but things weren’t planned to go that way.
Earlier this year, WWE held yet another round of cuts from the company in June due to COVID-19 related budget trimming reasons and several big names were included in that list. One of the most shocking names on the list was Braun Strowman. Without a doubt, he was one of the mainstays of the company for several years. Also, the former WWE Universal Champion was an original WWE product who didn’t wrestle much on the indie scenes.
This was almost at the same time that Raquel Gonzalez was booked to receive a lot of success in NXT. Her transition from the silent enforcer to Dakota Kai to the babyface leader of the NXT Women’s Division can be considered a commendable achievement. She didn’t forget to thank Braun Strowman for that success.
The NXT Women’s Champion recently talked to Yahoo Sports which was a special Hispanic Heritage Month interview. She discussed how her boyfriend Adam Scherr (who is better known as Braun Strowman in WWE) helped her with the creative aspects of wrestling.
“Even just being around Braun Strowman and having that time to pick his brain, being a bigger person and character in the ring, it helped me get a better grasp of the kind of wrestler I wanted to portray myself as when I stepped into the ring.”
Raquel Gonzalez also talked about her character change
Raquel Gonzalez then also mentioned how Scherr worked with her as she went on to become the biggest heel to being a fan favorite on the NXT roster. The champ said the transition was never easier than it sounds. Becoming more vocal and being herself but she eventually made it,
“I think the transition from heel to babyface hasn’t felt too different. I feel like I am still being true to myself. Another big change is being more vocal. When I was a heel bodyguard, I was silent and kind of kept to myself. Now, I can open up about me, my character and who I am.”
Raquel Gonzalez never admitted Adam Scherr aka Strowman to be her real-life partner during this interview or prior to that as they are yet to officially announce their relationship. Meanwhile, she continues to be a top superstar of the revamped NXT 2.0 brand. After successfully defending her title against Frankie Monet on the September 28 episode of NXT, Mandy Rose defeated her for the title at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 26 in a “Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal” match.
