WWE News: Reason Why The Fiend Didn’t Win Universal Title At Hell In A Cell 1

The bygone edition of Hell in a Cell turned out to be one of the worst shows of 2019 and perhaps the worst in the history of this barbaric structure. Heading into the show, WWE put the least effort to set up a decent match card as all the focus remained on the season premiere of WWE’s weekly programming. Only four matches were official before the show whereas the rest of the matches were added at the very last moment.

The main event of Hell in a Cell featured the Universal Championship match where Seth Rollins defended his title against The Fiend Bray Wyatt. The Fiend was the favorite to win the Universal Championship from the reigning champion as per the odds and predictions. Even the audience was firmly rooting for him who became upset to see WWE not booking him as a champion. There might be a strong reason why WWE decided to keep Seth Rollins as the champion.

On the post-HIAC edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer hinted what could be the possible reason as to why Vince McMahon didn’t want Bray Wyatt to win the Universal Championship at Hell in a Cell. According to him, Vince McMahon wanted four specific names to be the champions on Raw and SmackDown during this crucial period. Those four names are Seth Rollins, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Brock Lesnar,

“I think that Vince wanted to go in there, with, you know this is like a new season and I think that there was like this idea that he wanted Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch as the four champions going into this draft and going into this new season. Those were his picks and Bray Wyatt wasn’t.”

That is why the match bookings of Hell in a Cell was fresher in all aspect but it failed to bring out proper outcomes and thereby making the show a lackluster one.

The finish of the Universal Title match was disappointing by all means. The Fiend Bray Wyatt took a lot of punishment during the match including 11 curb stomps, a pedigree, kicks, chair shots, a ladder shot, a toolbox attack, and one final sledgehammer blow. Surprisingly, the referee called the match off and disqualified Rollins that was total gibberish. A Hell in a Cell match takes place with No-DQ rules that became meaningless with this decision. So fans insanely booed WWE once the match was over.
