Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg who is a former six times WWE World Tag Team Champion recently gave his opinion on if the WWE Hardcore Championship would work on the current PG product of the promotion.

WWE Hardcore Championship was one of the biggest attractions of the Attitude Era. It was one of the two lower mid card titles of WWE during the time. The title was really exciting as all the matches where the title was on the line took place under the Hardcore rule and the title could have been defended any time of the day.

Road Dogg Reflects On A Potential Return Of The Hardcore Title

Multiple Champions were crowned in one single night. After the introduction of it, it was defended like a normal titles, but the rules regarding the title changed later. Along with the European title, the Hardcore title was a great opportunity for lower mid cards develop themselves for the future.

But in 2002, during the initial days of the Ruthless Aggression Era, the title was unified with the Intercontinental Championship. After the initial brand split, fans expected that each lower mid card titles would go to two different brands. But WWE retired both lower mid card titles and completely omitted the lower mid card division.

It has been over 20 years, the lower mid card division has been completely ignored by WWE. In 2019 WWE introduced the WWE 24/7 Championship which was defended 24/7 just like the Hardcore title.

Fans expected this could be a replacement for the Hardcore title, but ultimately it turned out to be a comedy Championship and Triple H decided to retire it. We seriously hope WWE brings some lower mid card Championship that would help develop their lower mid cards further.

Road Dogg who is a former six times WWE World Tag Team Champion recently spoke on his “Oh…You Didn’t Know” Podcast where he gave his opinion on if the WWE Hardcore Championship would work on the current PG product of the promotion. He said;

“I don’t know if they could do a Hardcore Championship thing, but I think they still do a little wild, wild west stuff. I mean, you still still see some chairs come into play. You still see them going through a table and stuff, so I think there’s enough TLC and street fight and stuff like that where you get those elements in your product.

“I don’t think Hunter’s philosophy is that 24/7 kind of Hardcore title. It’s a secondary and kind of made up and I just don’t think he sees value in it. I don’t know that I do either because it was a little more blood and guts back then. What we were fighting for real, half of us were (he laughs). It was violent, but it was fun too. So I don’t know. I don’t know if there’s a place for it anymore.”
