Plans around Royal Rumble commence in the WWE much earlier as this is the show which marks the beginning of the Road to WrestleMania. The venue and date of the show are often disclosed almost a year ago just to drag the fans all over the world. Things would be slightly different, the next time around, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

But it seems like WWE does have the initial sketches set on bringing out a new main-eventer, eyeing the WrestleMania scene. They are likely to be zeroing in an unlikely superstar to be the winner of the Royal Rumble 2021 edition. He is from the SmackDown brand who’d go on to challenge for the Universal Title.

According to The Dirty Sheets Patreon page, the current plan for the Men’s Royal Rumble 2021 match is set. The New Day’s Big E is the favorite to win the 30-man battle royal. He’ll then go on to face “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37.

Big E has recently started focusing on his singles run and it was openly also highlighted on TV after Xavier Woods was out of action with an injury and Kofi Kingston went on a hiatus due to a kayfabe injury after dropping the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at Extreme Rules 2020.

The potential Royal Rumble win in 2021 is the sole reason why Big E was taken out of a recent Number-one Contender’s Fatal-4-Way match (which Jey Uso won to go on to face Roman Reigns at Clash Of Champions 2020). WWE wanted Big E to be protected and not rushed into the World Title picture.

Speaking of Royal Rumble, WWE has some big plans in store around the show as this could finally be the event where the company can expect to have the fans to be present after months of absence. In an update from Wrestlevotes, WWE is planning to have the fans back in attendance even before the first Big-Four pay-per-view event in 2021,

“Asked what the Royal Rumble location plans are: Learned that WWE has a city in mind & are looking to get back to live crowds prior to that. However, they are keeping an eye on what the NBA & NHL do for next season regarding fans and capacity levels.”
