Sasha Banks is no stranger when it comes to mainstream appearances. She previously represented WWE on red carpet events including the grand premiere of the latest Marvel Spiderman movie, last month. Now, she was present during a title match opener, last night.
The top Smackdown Superstar appeared in ESPN’s opening segment to kick off the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship game between Georgia and Alabama. The game aired last night at 8 pm ET via ESPN and the ESPN app.
Sasha Banks featured in a segment during the aired video as a futuristic superhero who sparks the start of the game using the final piece of confetti from last year’s showdown in Miami, Florida to the teams running out on the field this year in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Top Champion From WWE Smackdown Out Of Action Due To Injury
Then Sasha Banks spoke to Variety about this appearance, “It’s been such an honor, I feel like everybody who has been working on the set, and the whole team have been so incredible… to walk in and to just feel so welcome, and just to see everything, and I was just like, it was amazing. I love the outfit, I love the concept, and it just fit me so well.”
Sasha Banks is currently off Smackdown TV
Reports suggest that this appearance of Sasha Banks came via the latest collaboration between WWE and ESPN. They previously collaborated when Big E appeared for the introductions for ESPN’s promo for the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder fight back in October. Also, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg recently joined College GameDay as the guest picker for the Georgia-Michigan game on December 31.
For the time being, Sasha Banks won’t be appearing on WWE TV. WWE announced over this past weekend that the top Smackdown Superstar is expected to be out of action for 6-8 weeks after suffering a foot injury at January 2 WWE live event in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She suffered a bruised calcaneus bone and will have to be at home to receive physical therapy.
It is likely that the ESPN segment was filmed during her ongoing hiatus but there’s no confirmation available in this regard. There’s no update either on Sasha Banks’ returning timespan but the injury will force her to miss the annual Royal Rumble PPV.
