Smackdown Live presented us with two more second-round participants for the King of the Ring tournament. The opening contest of last night featured an exciting contest between Andrade and Apollo Crews for the KOTR series. Apollo was in control after dodging an Olympic Slam attempt and hitting an Enziguiri. He soon followed up with a Standing Shooting Star Press for a two-count. Zelina Vega had to interfere to distract Crews that allowed Andrade to hit the Hammerlock DDT to pick up the big win.

The next match continuing King of the Ring took place in the main event of the night where Kevin Owens competed against Elias. There was a condition put into the match enforced by Shane McMahon that if Owens put hands in the referee his WWE deal will be over. This allowed Shane to run down during the match wearing a referee’s jersey and distract Owens. Elias rolled him from the back as Shane counted in a fast way to hand over Elias a win. Thus, Kevin Owens is no more present in the King of the Ring tournament.

King of the Ring tournament started from WWE Raw onwards where we saw two superstars from the red brand to advance to the next round. Last night the journey to becoming the next king of the WWE continued as four superstars from the blue brand battled in two separate matches. In one of them, it was Apollo Crews taking on Andrade in a rematch. In the other one, it was Kevin Owens seeking redemption against Elias.

If you keep track of the Smackdown storylines then it’s evident that these two have been on a bitter feud for quite sometimes. Elias has been trying to ruin Kevin Owens Summerslam win against Shane McMahon by acting as the special ring enforcer. After being unsuccessful, it was last week when he handed a shocking loss to the Prizefighter with the fastest count. So, WWE.com predicted Owens is coming for revenge,

“Kevin Owens and Elias’ problems go well beyond the King of the Ring, so both Superstars will be looking to not only advance in the tournament but to hurt the other man. KO and “the biggest acquisition in SmackDown LIVE history” head into this first-round matchup with Elias having just won the 24/7 Championship and Owens getting hit with that hefty $100,000 fine from Shane McMahon last week on SmackDown LIVE. Can Owens get a measure of retaliation on Shane and company by busting Elias’ bracket?”

That’s not how things turned out to be at King of the Ring tournament on Smackdown as Shane McMahon continued to take revenge on Kevin Owens from the Summerslam loss. This time around, he took the chance away from Kevin Owens who was one of the favorites to win the whole thing.
