WWE always wishes to have The Rock associated with their programming so that they could cash in on his appearances. That’s not possible given how much busy he really is, these days. Being the biggest box office attraction isn’t easy, at all as a lot of duties come around with it. This is the reason he will not attend this month’s Big-Four PPV event, in opposition to the earlier reports.
The Rock was expected to make a return at Survivor Series 2021 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his WWE debut but that won’t be possible. But he won’t be there during WWE’s return to the Barclays Center in New York due to his commitments. In fact, the much-anticipated match against Roman Reigns is also not happening at Wrestlemania 38, ruling out the earlier speculations.
WWE Survivor Series 2021: Battle Royal Announced For The Rock’s 25th Anniversary
A “Dream Match” between Roman Reigns and The Rock has been rumored for many years. Those were fueled big-time after Reigns turned heel last year and became “The Tribal Chief” which instantly planted the seeds for a perfect feud with his cousin, The Great One in time for Wrestlemania 38.

The Rock won’t appear at Wrestlemania 38
Now, Ringside News has spoken to a tenured member of the creative team who closed down the idea, entirely. It was clarified that they were never ever in a situation where The Rock might work in that dream match. They were told that, “Reigns is not wrestling Rock at WrestleMania in Dallas. This has been the rumor forever and it’s never been the plan, ever.”
In the past, The Rock did want to put over Roman in this dream match, which would most likely be his final match in pro-wrestling. So, if he can’t make time to appear at WrestleMania 38, then WrestleMania 39 seems the next perfect option to compete in that match as WWE will go Hollywood, that year. (This was the original plan for WrestleMania 37, but then it got changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
Based on the previous reports, The Rock is still expected to make a return at Survivor Series 2021 in November. However, this will be a non-physical appearance where he won’t be competing in a match but rather might initiate the program with Roman Reigns.
