Sasha Banks was scheduled to face Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2021. This would have marked the much-anticipated rematch between the two from Wrestlemania 37 Night One main event but that didn’t happen. Prior to the biggest event of the summer, news broke out about the challenger for the title is off the show for some unknown reasons.
As previously reported, Sasha Banks was not at the Footprint Center for SmackDown that was the go-home edition for Summerslam 2021. Plus, she and Bianca Belair also missed the previous weekend’s non-televised WWE Supershow live events. WWE had said that they missed the shows due to “unforeseen circumstances” as they continued to promote the scheduled match for the PPV.
When Summerslam arrived, it was announced during the title match that Sasha Banks was unable to compete and Carmella was announced to be her replacement to take on Bianca Belair. Then, Becky Lynch made her return and ended up taking Carmella’s place who proceeded to squash Bianca to win the SmackDown Women’s Title.

Sasha Banks could be back within next week
WWE hasn’t since provided any update or the reason behind Sasha Banks’ current absence from TV. According to PWInsider, she isn’t cleared to compete and isn’t expected to return on SmackDown,
“Banks was not on the road for WWE this past weekend and unless there is a last-minute change, we are told she will not be returning this week, either.”
But the expectation is that Sasha Banks will return to the road for WWE during the weekend of September 10, which would be the Super SmackDown taping from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
That being said, WWE officials are hopeful that The Boss will be back in action by mid-September. As noted, she is currently not cleared to compete for an unknown reason. She has not wrestled since the August 7 WWE Supershow live event in Ft. Myers, Florida.
It was noted by the source that nothing is confirmed until it happens, but the MSG weekend is the targeted expectation for Sasha Banks’ return within WWE. There’s no update either if she would get the scheduled title match opportunity that she missed at Summerslam due to the unfortunate circumstances.
