courtesy WWE.com

WWE Raw kicked off by addressing the headliner of the show that is to announce the special guest referee for Stomping Grounds. He will officiate the Universal title match between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin. The latter one chose Elias as the first option who received a beatdown from Rollins in the opening segment. From then onwards, he became a man on a mission.

Baron Corbin then appointed Eric Young and EC3 as the special guest referees who suffered the same consequences, too. By the end of the night. Corbin was able to seek payback on the champion but did not clarify who the official is going to be on this Sunday night.

Spoiler On Guest Referee For Stomping Grounds Main Event

This is a smart strategy by the WWE officials since they want to keep the fans vested into the contest. The title match will go down at the very end of the PPV night and we are not likely to get to know the name of the referee until then. So the fans will have to follow the entire PPV event to get to know about the special attraction. It might cause some additional PPV buys for the company, too.

WWE tried to hype up the Universal Championship match as much as possible for Stomping Grounds. With lesser options available, the company had to choose a rematch between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin from Super ShowDown. We don’t need to mention explicitly that the fans don’t like Corbin, at all. Thereby the concept of the guest referee came about for this match.

After last week’s declaration by Baron Corbin, WWE.com hinted that this week, he will officially announce the name of the guest referee,

“Universal Champion Seth Rollins stood tall last Monday night on Raw after obliterating the main event’s special outside guest official, Sami Zayn, with a steel chair. However, The Beastslayer might not look so triumphant when the dust settles at WWE Stomping Grounds, where he will defend his title against Baron Corbin. Throwing a wrench into the works, The Lone Wolf will choose the Special Guest Referee for his own title opportunity and will reveal his decision on Raw.”

Rumors were all around the internet on this issue claiming that WWE may have already disclosed the guest referee name, already. Brock Lesnar was the most possible name to favor Baron Corbin at Stomping Grounds and thereby change the complexion of the matchup. There are still chances available that the beats may end up reserving the place at the PPV. Only time will tell whether he would appear in zebra stripes or not.
