The dream match between The Rock and Roman Reigns is in hold for a very long time in the WWE. Obviously, the busy Hollywood schedule of The Great One has been a bar from creating a suitable storyline while the COVID-19 pandemic has also acted as an obstacle in the past. As per the recent reports, WWE may pull out all the stops to make it happen by any means at Wrestlemania 39.
The 2023 edition of the biggest event of the year will take place at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California on the April 1/2 weekend. As the event is taking place in the Los Angeles market, The Rock’s presence as the Hollywood megastar is essentially needed on that weekend. It certainly appears to be the ideal time to run the long-awaited dream match against Roman Reigns.
WWE Smackdown: Roman Reigns’ First Championship Defense Announced
But WWE has to keep a backup plan intact if The Brahma Bull can’t make his commitment for one final match at The Show of Shows. If that’s the case then Cody Rhodes will be prepared to face WWE’s Tribal Chief at the grandest stage of them all.
Roman Reigns could face top Raw Superstar at Wrestlemania 39
As per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rhodes is expected to be out of action for six months following his surgery to fix a torn pec muscle. He’s likely to return around Royal Rumble 2023. If The Rock vs. Roman Reigns can’t be confirmed by then, The American Nightmare will be placed as the new Wrestlemania 39 opponent for the latter one,
”Will likely be out about six months, which makes the Royal Rumble probably the smart time frame for a return,” wrote Meltzer. “If Dwayne Johnson doesn’t wrestle Roman Reigns, it’d make the returning Rhodes vs. Reigns as the most likely biggest of next year’s Mania.”
Ronda Rousey’s Championship Defense Announced For WWE Money In The Bank 2022
Cody Rhodes returned to WWE during WrestleMania 38, earlier this year, and he’s been on a winning streak ever since. Counting the Hell in a Cell 2022 win over Seth Rollins, he hasn’t lost a single match be it on TV or a dark match. Due to the strong booking, he’s organically become the biggest fan favorite but he will be out of action for a few months due to that pectoral injury.
So whenever he comes back, the crowd will give him major pop as a top babyface superstar and so he could be a great rival for Roman Reigns given that he’s the top heel of the WWE roster.
