Gunther already set record as Intercontinental Champion
Apparently, one of the longest title reigns in modern history could finally come to an end at Wrestlemania 40. Gunther is one of the top stars of the Raw roster who also happens to be the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. He has held the title for over 500 days now starting from June 2022 and perhaps WWE intends to take the title away from him at the grandest stage of them all.
Wrestlemania 40: Gunther vs. Brock Lesnar an option for WWE
According to the reports of Xero News, Gunther’s record-setting title reign is scheduled to end at WrestleMania 40. It was also noted by the source that the current choices for the superstar to dethrone him would be either Brock Lesnar or Chad Gable,
“Brock was option A with the view in mind that they could also do it at WrestleMania 41 in a different scenario if they can’t do Lesnar at 40. Chad Gable was discussed recently as a backup plan. WWE officials are super high on Gable and think him dethroning Gunther at WrestleMania would be a star-making moment.”
While Brock Lesnar vs. Gunther at Wrestlemania 40 seems to be a mouth-watering option for wrestling fans, it’s highly unlikely that Lesnar will compete in an IC title match that’s been considered a mid-card title in the WWE. From that perspective, Gable remains a handy option for the WWE creative.
Wrestlemania 40 emanates from the Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, April 6th, and Sunday, April 7th, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and to date, no official match or superstar has officially been announced for the event.
